  • A meeting in the forest

A lone wolf slides silently through the underbrush, it's eyes alert to any nearby threats as it approaches a clearing. I lone hooded figure stands in the clearing her back to the skulking creature seemingly unaware of its presence.

The wolf continues its advance breaking through into the clearing without a sound. Padding softly across the packed dirt and pine needles it nears its target. The wolf stops its advance mere feet from the figure and slowly the wolf?s features begin to shift into that of a man.

A somewhat handsome wild elf kneels now where the wolf once stood looking towards the figure seemingly waiting. Without turning the cloaked figure acknowledges the wild elf.

    [Translated from the Druidic tongue]

?Greeting and rise my son.? A lilting voice fills the air and the cloaked figure turns to face the young elf.

An attractive face unaffected by the ravages of time peers towards him through the depths of the cloak. Without a word she steps forward and offers her arm in greeting and the two figures move towards a large smooth stone and take a seat.

?You have a report for me Initiate Caldor?? She offers.

?Aye my lady, and it is worse than I had expected.? He slowly shakes his head as the lady listens without interrupting. ?It began a few nights ago, but it is quickly growing in proportion. It seems one Tamara Roth, a human worshipper of Torm and arcane caster of some sort, has appointed herself ?commander? of a group of adventurers.?

?In her own right she is not so bad, although our ideals may clash somewhat at times, but she has also named a lady known as Lyonette as her Lieutenant. This one, a human of no small fighting skill and also known as Rook believes everyone is meant to kneel down for her and follow her every whim. I can see her being trouble for us in the future.?

?Tell me more of these groups of adventurers Caldor.? The Druid interjected.

?As you wish,? he began, ?it seems there are at least two separate but co joined groups in the making. The first led by Tamara Roth, on her own not to bad a figure although somewhat head strong. The others I believe to be part of this group include the arrogant one known as Rook, and I believe Garrett to be part of this as well.?

?A second group seems to be sprouting up as well led by Richard Darkholme I believe. With the excitement springing up some of my memories have become clouded. Also the one know as Ego has made mention his idea to create his own, but I find that highly doubtful. I will have more information on all of these groups soon enough.?

?On to the events at hand from last eve.? Looking up to see the figure nod tersely. ?A large group had gathered at the camp in the Sharahan Hills,? he continues. ?Most of the usual players Rook, Myrddin, Richard, Zelivean, Ego and Garrett among others. As is the norm the arguing began about rightness and which ?company? of adventures one should join and so on.?

?It seems to happen every time,? he shakes his head continuing, ?too much talking and ?dick-measuring? so to speak?oh excuse me.? He looks up quickly but is waved on by the form in the cloak. ?Er..from the corner of my eye I saw a figure I had not met before, and I looked up just as he threw some sort of bottle into the midst of the crowd.?

?I was rolling backwards as the fireball erupted and I was spared the brunt of the flames, others including Garrett were not so lucky. Rolling to my feet I saw this figure, I now know as Camazotz making a hasty retreat. Digging in my heels I gave chase, launching arrows as I ran, but failing to find the mark. Camazotz cut into the pass north of the goblin cave and I lost him there.? He looked down somewhat disheartened but again was simply waved on.

?After losing him I returned to the mining camp to survey the damage only to find it almost abandoned. I was told that a two had died, but I found that out to be an exaggeration later on. I had only returned but a moment when Camazotz returned and despite my protests he had initiated the attack, I was ignored.?

?Camazotz began to spout his rhetoric about Beshaba and the damage he had caused, as I moved closer covering him with my bow.? Looking up again he noticed the look in the lady?s eyes and knew he had to speed up his story.

?Again the figure ran off though this time with an arrow of mine sprouting from his arm. I followed again but he doubled back and consumed a quaff that made him invisible. I took that time to return to lead a group out in search of him. A number of the aforementioned were in this gathering. After a short trip back out into the hills I picked up his trail and followed swiftly, on my own.?

?After guessing his destination as the crossroads I ran back to the group to tell them of his destination, but they were much to busy arguing to listen. So again I continued on after his trail alone. It seemed I was the only one who had any concerns for a Beshabian who randomly attempted to kill people.? He paused bitterly for a moment.

?I followed him through a number of different regions as he seemed to be looking for something. At first he harvested some red grass near the forest and it was in leaving the forest that we encountered the main group once again. He became invisible again and I feared he meant to ambush the group, so I shouted a warning and launched an arrow at him.?

?The group, with a few trackers and I followed him back to the outpost by the forest before we lost his tracks. The ?adventuring group? at this point simply gave up and I was once again following on my own. It came to me then that he muttered he was searching for dewberry. Knowing it?s growing habits I headed off to the hills again and caught up with him as he was gathering the dewberry.?

?Again his tongue betrayed him as he said he was looking for a binding agent and he decided on the moss from a living tree. He moved through the hills seemingly unnoticed searching for such before he realized where he must search, the Gates of the Sunderer.?

?When I had arrived there he was already busy creating his concoction, although at the time I did not know what for. As I began to approach Camazotz a human in armour began moving towards him. I quietly warned the human that he was dangerous, but I was once again ignored. After moving into a good position the human, to his credit approached and began conversing with him.?

?For a moment I believed I would be rushing into the mouth of a wild cat as this man reached for his sword, which thankfully was not there. In his conversation I learned that this Camazotz had been ordered to create a healing salve to undo some of the damage he had caused. It seems his leader, he called Jargaboth will be making himself known to the area soon enough.?

?The human and the figure both headed off to the campsite where everything began and I followed discreetly to ensure his destination before leaving the hills to meet with you and report my lady.? Finishing he bows his head slightly and waits for a reaction.

After a few moment the figure draws back the hood of her cloak and looking the elf in the eyes nods her head to him.

?You have done well Caldor. I must hurry and report this to the Great One. Return to me when you have more news.? With that the lady turns on her heels and her form shifts into that of a large cat and bounds gracefully into the forest.

Caldor watches the cat until it disappears into the woods before turning and making his own way back into the forest.
