Forgive me if this is a bit long, but I meant to just write a short character description and just got waaay too into it tonight. Also, it has been a while since I have done one of these before, so I am a bit rusty (and I NEVER write stories... I think this has been the first thing I have actually written for over 8 years).

Luzienne Roykin
(Lou-z-n ROY-kin)
Male Gnome Fighter, 38 Years Old
As a young member of the "Arms and Armor Advancement And Innovations" Guild, Luzienne was considered by his Guildmasters to have a very odd & impossible work-ethic in his research: to actually train in the use of all weapons and armor to better understand how to improve the basic designs of them. After exhausting the knowledge of anyone who can train him locally, he set out on a pigramage to "examine, train, and learn of the various arms used across Faerun, in order to better facilitate the guild's knowledge of current technology in order to improve & invent the arms trade". While the Guildleaders huffed at the notion that any humans or elves could help them improve their designs (noticable lack of mentioning the Dwarves), they decided to approve the request just to get the odd Luzienne out of their hair.
Obviously, the guildleaders found Luzienne a "proposterous, rediculous fellow". Luzienne, standing at a normal 3'4", stands out in the Guildhouse with his bright blue hair (which perfectly match his eyes). When approached about this, he just shrugs it off, "eh, I like it". The reality, though, is that he did it at a young age, just to see the Guildmasters fidget, and ever since then, has just become accustomed to it.
Luzienne is that kind of fellow. He never liked the common Gnomish xenophobic mentality (which is particularly strong in his hometown), and has a high opinion of all of the other goodly races (most noticably the Taller Races, whom he has made a point of meeting anytime one came to Town). This all started with a Human who came to town when Luzienne was just 22. A swordsman by the name of Kaeldor came to the guildhouse, and stayed for about 2 months (Luzienne never found out why Kaeldor was there, though... Anytime Luzienne asked, Kaeldor would shy away from the topic). During this time, Luzienne befriended the swordsman (easy, since the rest of the guild shied away). It was at this point that Luzienne realized he needed to learn how to use the tools of his trade, in order to better make and improve them.
Once Luzienne got approval, he set out for his journey. After a bit of travel, he settled in a small town in the Dalelands... after meeting the elves in the forests there, of course. They liked him in particular because of his curiosity, respect for the Elves, and his surprising ability to learn the elven sword-style. You see, Luzienne has become a very respectable swordsman... for one who still hasn't seen any real battle, that is. He learned that, due to his size and stature, or better yet his shortness and skinnyness, that the common "lung and plunge" style just doesn't work. So he quickly adapted to using his weaknesses as strengths. He is incredibly Agile, and knows how to use his low center of gravity to his advantage. He learned the art of two-weapon fighting from the elves, who were rightfully surprised at how quickly he took up this difficult fighting style. This also taught him his first trick in his craft: he has learned to modify & shave armor JUST right so that it doesn't lose any of it's effectiveness, yet allows him much more maneuverability then before.
It was in this small town that Luzienne's life turned upside down. One night, a local guard came running to town yelling that a large group of orcs were coming to attack the town, and were 2 days away. Quickly, all around Luzienne, the locals took up arms in order to defend themselves and their homes. Things were pretty grim, since very few were actually trained in any kind of combat. Luzienne's instincts told him to leave (Luzienne, while more wordly then his guildmates, still kept himself detached from the world as an observer). It wasn't any concern of his, so he quickly packed up to leave. While walking out of town though, he looked around and then it finally hit him: He loved this town. He loved the family to his right who were practicing lunges with their pitchforks (including the 10 year old son "Junior"). He loved the little brat girl to his right, who was screaming in fright. He all of a sudden found that he couldn't leave. Not without trying to defend this small town that he loved. Quickly he went back to his cabin, threw his stuff on the floor, and gathered his weapons. He ran out the door to help the town build it's defenses.
2 nights later, he found himself perched up in a tree, ready to jump down as a flank-defense. In the last two nights, he started doubting his decision. The old him kept on telling him to leave, it was no concern of his. By the time he was up in the tree, though, that voice has been dulled to a low whisper. Luzienne is now ready to fight for this family that isn't his. Soon, the orcs come rushing through the forest's edge, and once they hit the townsfolk, Luzienne jumped from his perch. The orcs, seeing this little gnome coming from the side, didn't take him as much of a threat... at first. After he quickly cut down two orcs with his two shortswords, the orcs payed attention to him. Luzienne was a blur to them, easily dodging multiple blows, and constantly stinging them with his two shortswords (at this point, the orcs were not as easy targets as the first two, since they gave him much more respect, so while Luzienne scored many hits, it took a while for him to take one down). Unfortunitally, in the middle of a half-lunge and a parry, one orc scored a lucky hit on the side of his head, and Luzienne fell unconcious.
Early in the morning, just after dawn, Luzienne woke to an empty battlefield. After much dizzyness and headache, he finally got himself upright and focused, and looked towards the destroyed town. Luzienne was crying as he initially looked around, finding many of the townfolk dead. His mood lifted a bit after more investigation, though, because he saw that not all of the townsfolk were there, including all of the people who were not involved in the fight. Hanging onto his hopes, he grabbed anything he could find that would help him travel, and quickly headed away from the town, trying to find out if maybe the other townsfolk got away.
After quite a bit of travel, though, he never found any evidence of the townsfolk, good or bad. After awhile, he had to give up on his search. There were no answers to what happened to the townsfolk. After a bit of a mourning cry, and prayers to Flandal Steelskin, he set out to find... well, he wasn't sure.
