General
Name: Maledict
Race: Tiefling
Alignment: Neutral
Class: Fighter/Barbarian/Divine Champion/Frenzied Berserker
Deity: Helm
Age: 26
Physical Appearance
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 170 lbs.
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Dark brown
Complexion: Pale
Background:
Raised by human parents, Maledict (n?e Benedict) had an unremarkable, if not idyllic childhood. He is uncertain whether he is the result of some extraplanar infidelity or if his infernal parent simply hid or failed to manifest their fiend blood, but he began to show signs of his heritage with puberty. Accompanying physical changes came certain alterations in temprament: He was apt to fly into an uncontrollable rage at disproportionately small provocations.
These incidents became more and more menacing over time, culminating in a dreadful altercation in which the 17-year-old Benedict was only stopped from murdering his younger sister by the timely intervention of local law enforcement, who came in response to the loud crashes of property destruction.
Horrified by his actions, Benedict surrendered to the guard, but as his family refused to press any kind of charge, he was allowed to go free. Not trusting himself to keep his family safe, however, he took on his new name and fled to a local Helmite monastery, hoping to learn something of discipline. After a few months, however, it was clear to both Maledict and the monks that, whatever his dedication, he lacked the discipline and control for the monastic life.
After leaving the monastery, Maledict sought to channel his seemingly unquenchable rage into something more constructive: He began hiring on as a guard with those merchant caravans he could convince to ignore his obvious infernal heritage. It was one of these trips which took him to Sundren.
Personality:
Maledict is characterized by the rage which is his birthright, but also by an intellectual devotion to law and order, and by an extreme fear of his own potential for evil. His alignment (Neutral) represents the conflict between his intellectual Lawful Neutrality and his propensity for chaos.
His unquestioning belief in the rightness and necessity of control by the state in order to keep people like himself in check often leads to a certain blindness when it comes to corruption and coercion by that state. In Sundren, Maledict will likely try to join or assist the local law enforcement agencies, but will have to keep a constant eye on himself to keep from becoming a "bad cop," both when it comes to anger-based assault and his ironclad belief in the legitimacy of lawful authority, even when it infringes on the rights of others.
