  • Whisltling in the Dark: A Miner's Tale

    Cheek pressed to the cold stone Gandar breathed in deeply the cool damp air a welcome caress. He did not hold his breath nor did the the air in his lungs rush noisily out. Ever so slowly and silently he exhaled. His ears attuned to the silence. His grubby beard bristled against the rock face before him. He felt the scruffle in his skull more than heard in in his ears. Just a little tickle my love, he thought to himself.

    He sat motionless suspended in his harness some 70 meters down his newest prospect. The shaft was mostly natural and had needed only minimal attention with pick and hammer before Gandar could make his way so far below the surface.

    Still in the midst of his long silent exhale his tongue darted out to taste the rock face. Then, Tink, the sharp sound of of his pick echoed off in to silence. The vibrations continued through the rock wall and a sly smile grew on Gandar's face "There you are my love." He whispered
