  • Compiled Craft Works of Rurik Stonefist

Among the many books within Whurest's library is a series of leather bound tomes maintained by Moradin's faithful. It is every forge smith's privilege to add their new techniques and plans to this mighty body of knowledge.

One such book details notable undertakings of Rurik Stonefist during his tenure as a forge smith of Whurest.

  • #2
    Technique: Admant Weave Battle Vestments
    Materials Required:
    10 - Adamant ingots

    Tool Required:
    1 - Adamant sheers
1 - Set of adamant needles
    1 - Gnomish magnifying goggles
    1 - Iron Table
1 - Pair dragon hide gloves
1 - Dragon hide smithing apron

Purpose: The defense of kinfolk who for whom due to profession, faith, or oath cannot don typical dwarven armors. In order to significantly reduce the encumbrance of rings, scales, or plate it is desired to mimic the construction of normal clothing. Instead of plant fibers, cords of the traditional dwarven admant-mithril alloy are used. This alloy is well detailed in Whurest's library and is renown for its flexibility and hardness.

Construction: Any single thin adamant cord, even with dwarven alloying, is weak. In order to achieve any form of protection cords must be woven into tight meshes of no less than 40 threads be inch. Three layers of these meshes must be stacked to ensure stopping power required to save the wearer from slashing and puncturing attacks. In order for the work to remain functional after sustaining several slashes and useful under assault from blunts, magicks are used to bulwark the foundation which material construction provides. The magicks used have been prepared by James Frazer and are referenced in the following construction guides with copies appended to the end of this tome.

Cords of this size are not easy to forge. As with plant fibers cords are created by braiding many threads together. Adamant alloy first must be hammered into sheets as thin as traditional gold foils. Working in the forge smith's favor is that the material is not as sensitive to drafts however, the material is not immune. It is advised that when preparing adamant threads that the forge smith seek a quiet area free from foot traffic and other environmental disturbances. Strips of this sheet are then cut to length and of a width such that, when rolled, will result in threads of no more than 1/40th of an inch. Working with distinctiveness of this scale will result in many mistakes. SAVE ANY SCRAPS. Wasted foil can be remelted and reworked later.

Strips are then folded, by hand, into threads via heat treatments over an iron table. Each strip is laid onto an iron table and heated to the threshold of melting the adamant-mithril alloy. Even heating of the table is required! Be sure to prevent hot spotting by using only coals under the iron table. As with traditional methods, the alloy will glow dull cherry red when the foil is ready to fold. Once this temperature is reached, the forge smith gently rolls the heated metal by hand into long even cylinders. Without protection the heat will damage the craftsman's hands. Use of dragon hide gloves and apron is mandatory. Gather together completed threads. Cords are created by braiding no less than four such threads together using standard techniques. When complete each cord should be of the desired length and no wider or deep than 1/40 of an inch. While it is possible to weave more than four threads together the tedium of this labor must be taken into account. At some point more is simply more and in my experiments four proved ideal.

Weaving of the cords into fabric is accomplished by use of a standard loom. Three sheets of equal size then joined together at the loom into a single length. Each layer composing a sheet must be oriented opposite to the layer both directly above and below it. Bolts of admant-alloy weave can only be worked with adamant sheers and needle. Puncturing cords is incredibly difficult, it is best to utilize gnomish goggles to magnify the material as to force the needle through gaps in the interwoven layers. Other than the additional tools composition of the final work can follow whatever styling the craftsman wishes. Sketches of the my original design follow as an example.
