  • A report sent in by Jan (Half Pint Inn) to the Legion

    Dear sir / madam ,

Today I was visited by a woman demanding that the bottle of wine she had ordered was 'on the house'. When I informed her that it wasn't, she displayed what I could only assume to be a false badge proclaiming her to be a member of the Legion.

She continued to describe how my taxes might have been misplaced (for which I have the receipts, dear sir or madam!) and that it would be awful for me to be accused of not-paying my taxes during these times of war.

I hope the description I give below will aid in the arrest of this criminal.

    - Jan,
    Innkeeper of the Half-Pint, Sundren.

    Description:
A tall woman, evidently human. Clad in black robes. Her hair was worked into a bun of sorts, with a lace woven into it. She spoke alternately quite sweetly, and then intensely threatening.

Shortly after her return from the Diteglia Estate, Emiliana finds another complaint letter awaiting her. A grumbled curse is muttered, and the Legionnaire yet again pens a reply that she personally delivers to the Half-Pint Inn.

    Respected Barkeeper Jan,

Allow me to apologize for the misconduct delivered to your fine establishment. Long has the Half-Pint Inn been a popular after-duty treat for Legionnaires and jail guardsmen, and it would pain me to see our fine relationship sullied by the actions of one misguided soldier.

I have received additional complaints from a Left Hand of Mundus who described someone similar to the person who offended you. I can personally assure you that anyone who tarnishes the reputation of the Legion in such a manner will be appropriately disciplined, as I will not tolerate such
    rapid accumulation of misdeeds.

Please do not hesitate to contact me again should you require anything else.

    Cordially,

    Centurio Emiliana Blackwell
    Fourth Legion

      Noble Centurion Blackwell,

The innkeeper wrote, tapping the fancy inkpen to his lip. He raised a finger as the next sentence came to him, and he continued scribbling.

Thank you for your swift reply. Your colleague, a most noble and effable Hand of Mundus found me soon after sending you my letter. I was, at the moment, discussing this recent development with my colleague Jack, at his establishment the Second Wind Inn.

Jan paused for a moment. Should he write more positive things about the Hand? You never quite knew with that collection of barely-sane mages. One was a newt before they knew it! He shook his head, this would suffice.

When I returned to my tavern and found your letter, I was pleasantly surprised. I wish to extend my gratitude to both yourself and aforementioned Left Hand for your actions in this matter. It is good to know that our Legion, busy as we all know they are bleeding for all of our sakes', also finds the time to combat petty crime, even when it is amongst your own ranks.

My sincerest gratitude, and please find attached a voucher I personally created, entitling you to one month of free drinks (for your own person) in my establishment.

      Thank you,

      - Jan

Another brief note arrives at the Half-Pint Inn.

          Respected Barkeeper Jan,

As I previously wrote, the rapid accumulation of misdeeds by Legionnaires will not be tolerated. The Legionnaire formerly known as Tirones Sile has been demoted, and she will be dishonorably discharged following a public lashing on [insert relevant information here.]

Appropriate seating will be provided for you and your guests should you wish to attend.

The duty of the Legion is to keep the Valley, her citizens, and her merchants safe from harm - not to inflict harm upon them. I regret that you had to endure such mistreatment, but I am glad that the situation has been resolved. Please do not hesitate to contact me again if there is anything I can do to aid you.

          Cordially, and for the Legion,

          Centurio Emiliana Blackwell

            Noble Centurion Blackwell,

Thank you for this excellent news. Might I inquire if you have already hired anyone to sell beverages (hot and cold!) at the event?

I feel obliged to tell you that my prices are, in fact, the lowest in the region, and that I have recently received a review rating my catering services as
'beyond comparison' (to read the full review, I have included a copy of yester-tenday's copy of the Sundren Print.

Hiring my tavern's excellent wait-staff will surely save the city tax-payer stags, as otherwise, less-than-honorable price-raisers might sell over-priced ale.

A reply is returned to Jan after a few days pass.

              Jan,

The Legion will not be officially hiring anyone to provide food, drinks, or entertainment during the lashing since the event itself will be rather brief. However, you and your staff are welcome to offer your wares provided that doing so does not conflict with any existing contracts.

              Cordially, and For the Legion,

              Centurio Emiliana Blackwell
