Character Name: Ignus Pyre
Race: Fire Genasi
Base Class: Warlock
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Deity: Kossuth
Age: 30
-----------------------------------------------------
Description:
Before Ignus has even been seen his presence is known, the slight scent of smouldering embers travels around with him making stealth something of an impossible task (unless other sources of burning are present in an area). Physically well toned and muscular Ignus walks with a self confident air of one who considers himself a race apart, physically and emotionally superior (whether or not this actually is the reality). Emotions are always something of a volatile mixture with any Fire Genasi, and Ignus is no exception prone to both fits of violent rage and moments of intense creative passion, a fact that is often mimicked by his fiery mane, during moments of fatigue and weariness Ignus' hair splutters and fades as though his very soul were burning out, conversely in the heat of battle his hair will flare and spark with untapped fury.
He stands approximately 5' 9" tall and enjoys his natural ability to draw attention to himself believing that any glances cast his way are a testament to the majesty of the great genies that played some role in his conception.
He is a worshipper of Kossuth, though he is at this moment not an active participant of the 'church'. Ignus finds that Kossuth exemplifies the destructive nature of his own fiery character, but he knows little more than basic information about the ways of Kossuth at the outset of character creation.

History:
Originally it is believed that Ignus hails from the sweltering humidity of the Chultean jungles, though he has remained guarded and has neither confirmed nor denied this fact. The truth to the matter, however, is that he did indeed dwell within the, almost alien, jungles of Chult for that is where he was eventually caught and caged by Rundeen traders in his early twenties. For a self absorbed egocentric Ignus does not seem to enjoy talking about his past, the reminders of those turbulent times appear to be something the Genasi would rather see burnt to a crisp.
The truth is that Ignus spent most of his younger days growing and learning within a small community of Fire Genasi based around the southern slopes of the 'Peaks of Flame'. Here the tribe had established itself upon a plateau of hardened magma which, due to the close proximity to the mighty peaks of flame, suffused the magma with a constant warmth that the tribe found naturally agreeable. Around the base of the plateau the tribe constructed rudimentary dwellings for their human consorts, after all the tribe could never flourish without increased breeding stock, a small community of humans was gathered together, the primitive, superstitious peoples of Chult were all too easily swayed by the exotic appearance of fire Genasi and the added protection that the Pyre tribes warriors could offer. The humans deified the fire Genasi and through them worshipped Kossuth, offspring born of fire Genasi and human that displayed traits of Genie lineage were greatly celebrated and were raised above the human community, living life and learning the tribes ways atop the warmed mesa.
Encouraged by both the isolated location and the very nature of the Genasi, the tribe were led to develop ways so that the histories and teachings of the community might be passed down through the generations. This became a combined system of rote learning, tribal scarring and tribal dance, with tales of past heroes and ancient myths being re-enacted by the community elders using their innate abilities to control flame to act out great moments from the tribal history round the communal fire pit.
Few outsiders know much of the histories of Chult, but for those that seek the wisdom it is said that the peaks of flame sit atop a gigantic pair of Iron doors that lead to the underworld, it is claimed that when the doom of the world approaches, Dendar the Night Serpent (a terrible monster that feeds on the unremembered nightmares of all creatures) will break down the doors and escape into Toril, whether or not this is actually true is a matter for both time and debate, however with the closing days of the destruction of the efreeti empire in Calimshan a group of Genies escaped into the jungles of Chult where they learned of the prophesy of Dendar, they convinced themselves that such a mighty beast might be useful to their continued survival and so it was that the first generation of the Pyre tribe established the foundations of the village, the original Pyre genies began cultivating their human breeding stock and began raising their offspring with the false belief that Dendar was in actual fact a manifestation of their deity Kossuth.
Ignus was born many generations later, a celebrated arrival and one of a pair of twins, of the two Ignus clearly showed signs of his noble heritage, he was elevated beyond the boundaries of the simple human settlement and began his new life in the care of other fire Genasi. His twin brother, however, showed every sign that he was a simple human child and before either of the two could ever comprehend the existence of the other they were separated, to live very different lives and very different stories.
The young fire Genasi grew atop the black mesa, his days spent beneath the sun, from his vantage point the mighty jungles of Chult spread out before him, at his back the ever magnificent peaks of flame spewing forth angry, billowing, clouds of smoke and ash, “Our lord Kossuth once more makes a mockery of of the air lord, look how willingly the air lord accepts the impure remains of Kossuth's purification!” was a comment commonly heard during such times of increased volcanic activity, the tribal elders taking great pleasure in the superiority of the fire race.
By the age of seven Ignus began to shows signs of trouble, he would frequently awaken at night screaming, brutal and sinister nightmares assailing his slumbering thoughts, horrors so vivid that he began to believe the waking world itself was nothing more than a mere construct of his imagination, designed to grant him a moments respite from the dangers in the darkness. Try as they might the tribal elders could not placate the young fire Genasi, and it seemed that for some reason their prayers and sacrifices to the manifestation of Kossuth deep within the peaks of flame did nothing to cure the young Ignus, in fact his nightmares seemed to only grow worse.
No more than a year had passed since the nightmares had truly begun to eat away at Ignus' dreams, for fear that word of his troubled mind might spread to the human breeding community and therefore lessen their carefully cultivated image as perfect beings, the fire Genasi elders carved a deep pit into the magma rock as far from the settlement as possible, into which a terrified Ignus was placed, his screams reverberating from the dark igneous rock walls, the screams became howls of anguish, slowly the howls choked away, his lungs raw, finally the only sound to emerge was a weak muffled weeping.
Time dragged on.
Trapped by his own heritage the young fire Genasi grew a solitary life in the pit, fed and watered by the tribe that considered his birth to be too precious a thing to waste, but his affliction too far gone to be allowed to walk freely.
The nightmares continued unabated.
