  • The Unknown War.

Sitting in his candle lit chambers at the 2nd wind inn Brunus sat as his desk a heavy leatherbound book infront of him and his strange writing instrument in his hand. He begins to scribble words onto the blank pages, the scratching sound of writeing can be heard in the silent halls of the Inn.

So much have been lost...By time...By war...and by things even worse, yet we endure as we always have, as the All Father made us to. Even in the darkest hours of our brief existence father Moradin watcher over us and shields us from the vile clutches of the other gods aligned against the deep folk, yet his power is not absolut and by Divine law he cannot interfere directly in our world, instead he inspires his children to great feats in both war and peace.

Yet there are clans whom have the favour of the other gods...one of these is my clan the Ironbreaker Clan, in ancient times we were reknowned as the masters of Seige works and fortifications, and our defenders were the stuff of legends. But now we are so few and only our Ancestral clan hold remain intact, Constantly tested by the vile forces of the drow and by the barbaric forces of the Orcs, Goblinkind and Giants, yet we endure and this is in no small part to our dedication to the preservation of the whole over the individual. Every dwarf in the clan works for the betterment of the clan as a whole, because the circumstances demands such and will always demand such selfless dedication, if the clan is to survive against the unforgiving obstacles aligned before it.

But this is not why i write this book, in truth i write this book in memory of the brave defenders who constantly fight to keep the north safe from the Hordes of the underdark that threaten to sweep down across the frozen wastes, across Icewind Dale and beyond.

These are the Tales of the Unknown War, In honor of those fallen in defense of others.

    The Battle of Stonegate Plains.

Standing atop a nearby hill General Gorin Glitterdelver observed the his troops, Two thousand Dwarves clad in Gleaming Mithral and Adamantine Armor, standing beside them were Gnomish irregulars from Lantan armed with strange and fantastic assortments of weapons and gadgets. And behind the regiment lines scores of giant gnomish weapons could be seen getting loaded by their Crew's. And finally the Defenders, the best of the best stood amidst the Rank and file, their Silvery Staahlrim Armor gleaming in white of the snowy plains. A mere one hundred defenders in the Battalion present, but Gorin knew they would prove them selves a hundred times worth their numbers in dead enemies. Gorin then looked to the horizon knowing that in a matter of moments the enemy forces would be in sight, and rightly so the first vanguard of the enemy forces could be seen spilling from the abandoned tunnels dotting the landscape, With resounding booms the cannons behind the Dwarven lines unleashed what could only be described as a Hell made by mortal hands upon the oncoming Drow forces, each shot exploding on impact lighting up the distance like candle lights, yet it did not deter the enemy and one could only speculate that the enemy troops feared their own superiors more then anything The dwarves could throw at them.

Faster then the cannons could be reloaded more and more Drow forces spilled from the tunnels, mostly their forces consisted of slaves and captive monsters sent forth as cheap expendable shock troops.

As the horde of enemies battered down on the Dwarven lines it turned into a real battle, the enemy hitting against the disciplined and rugged Dwarven lines while getting showered by shots from the gnomes on the flanks.

Even as the ordinary Dwarven forces got pushed back the Defenders stood their ground mercilessly butchering any enemies getting into reach. the priests amongst the Defenders chanted loudly praying for blessings on themselves and the defenders.

The battle raged for hours with niether side showing signs of giving up, the dwarves had managed to halt the enemy momentum and started slowly pushing back, amazingly the battalion of defenders was still there and still going strong, they had locked shields and formed a Wedge to cover a wider area while still staying which seemed to work, slowly as the rest of the Dwarven Lines catched up to the defenders the enemy were in full retreat.

The day was won but at a high price.....
