  • A Note In The Second-Wind Inn

*A scroll is pinned next to the board that lists 'Viridale Border Night Patrol'.. inside, it reads*

    _________________ MEMORANDUM ____________________
Sundren Free Brigade, Response to Viridale Border Night Patrol
To Be Read and Addressed By the Order of Commander Brunus

Kythorn 3, Year 1372 - Year of Wild Magic

    Commander Brunus,

On the day of Kythorn 3, I acted in response to the mission you had posted on the board named 'Viridale Border Night Patrol'. Upon entering the forest, I was greeted by a druid who was enlisted in the aid of Captain Rixen at the Legion border camp. This druid, who was after a poison artifact, joined alongside myself, along with another equipmentless character only armed with a large sword.

The goblins, gnolls, and ogres were eliminated with utmost ease. I don't forsee any future complications involving the Muckspear presence - they retaliated in full force and threw all of their numbers at us; we were forced to cut every last one down. While this may appear to be a boon for the forest, I suspect the missing presence of these beasts may upset the ecological balance of the forest.

With your permission, Commander, I'd like to continue with the counsel of this druid that assisted me in this mission on this matter. I will provide you with further details if necessary.

    For The Brigade,
    Soldier Icharus.

Sundren Free Brigade, Detailed Report, Miscellaneous
To Be Read and Addressed By The Order of Commander Brunus

Kythorn 14, Year 1372 - The Year of Wild Magic

    Commander Brunus,

On the eve of Kythorn the 14th, I had met with two rather interesting and friendly acquaintances. The first, as we discussed before, was a mage of extremely wondrous power, known as Orticus. The other, a charismatic swordsman known as Lional, Defender of Sundren, joined alongside Orticus and I. We ventured into the Necropolis under the situation I discussed with you earlier - there the three of us were, not surprisingly, accosted by foul arisen souls, both rotting and skeletal.

We cleared the graveyard with utmost ease, with much thanks to Orticus' ability to enhance our weaponry magically, along with Lional's exceptional talent in disarming our adversaries. We ventured further, encountering a strange mausoleum resembling something like an evil temple; inside were not only countless traps hidden from plain view, but a very interesting and intricate puzzle.

Again, due to the magic of Orticus and Lional's.. 'curious' attitude towards patience, we solved it with ease. A strange corridor opened up that we did not encounter before - leading to a catacombs-like area. We explored the catacombs carefully, encountering a recently fallen body. With the combination of the increasing fierceness of the undead and my desire to save the poor soul who ventured into this place, we agreed on leaving.

On the way back, I encountered two more bodies as well, strangely in the home next to the Necropolis entrance. I recognize one of the bodies as the dark armored figure I encountered a day past, claiming himself as 'The Tender of the Grave' in that place.

All three bodies were brought back to the Temple of Helm and raised by my request to the Abbot. Hopefully some answers can be brought to light as to the death of the two mysterious figures in the abandoned home.

    For The Brigade,
    Soldier Icharus.

*Icharus enters the Second Wind Inn, staring for a few moments at the blank area where the Sundren Free Brigade board used to be.. he solemnly reaches into his pocket and produces a rolled up scroll, relishing the moment, knowing this will be the last note he shall ever place here.. Inside it reads:

      Commander Brunus,

Word of the dissemination of the Brigade has reached me, and I am saddened by the news. I do not question your decision; I understand that it may have been a hard choice, but a necessary one nonetheless.

Despite this, I thought it necessary to let you know that you shall still bear the title of Commander before me. I shall always bear the badge of the Sundren Free Brigade; the protection of Sundren and its citizens shall never cease by my hand.

Know this: I shall continue protecting the land as though this unfortunate decision never happened. For in these times, it takes men and women of true mettle to fight against evil in the night so that the innocent can rest soundly in their beds. I will not deny them that security.

      For The Brigade,
      Soldier Icharus.
