Canus and his sister and companion wolf, Lupus, were born and raised in a druidic sect in the Earthwood forest within the Earthspurs. This particular sect of druids had many peculiarities that set them apart from standard druids including: extreme xenophobia; worshiping of the destructive forces of nature; worshiping of Talos; secretly bringing about the destruction of encroaching villages through nighttime slaughters of villagers, poisoning of wells, and cursing of farmlands; and perhaps the most peculiar of all... spending nearly all of their time in wolf form.
To the very few loremasters of the north east of Faerun and some villagers lucky enough to escape this sect's wrath, it is in disagreement as to whether these folk simply stay in wolf form to blend into the forest and so not bring about an easy retribution upon them.... other folks think they are wolves who only appear in man form when they need to deal with civilized folks on rare occasions... and still others believe them to be cursed lycanthropes who prowl the night and carry virgins and infants off into the woods for blood sacrifice and evil deeds and that if you somehow survive being bitten by one then you too would join them in their night time acts of abomination in wolf form.
Whatever the case, Canus and Lupus were raised as wolves and Canus has every reason to think that he is indeed a special breed of wolf that can assume man-form when necessary in times needing trade and diplomacy with humanoids and can also summon the stormful powers of nature to their command.
This time of need has now come for this wolf sect of Damara... as more and more forces from the outside threaten the very future of the Earthwood... the Tempest Wolves ~as they are known by few outside their circle~ have sent off two from their pack who show the most promise as diplomats and have the most even of tempers of their sect. Canus and Lupus are sent to the once pristine valley of Sundren to seek an alliance with the Wardens of the Vale so that they might be able to mutually aid each other in preventing the destruction of their respective sacred groves. Should this alliance prove unsuccessful, there is a great storm druid rumored to stalk nature's sacred lands of Sundren that Canus might seek the aid of.
Canus is rarely seen outside of the forest in wolf form and Lupus has never been seen outside of Damara in woman form. Canus has all the common mannerisms of a wolf... crafty eyes... quietly flanking enemies and prey... drooling when food is around... and shaking the water off of his hair and body in rapid twisting motions when wet. Canus and Lupus have made friends with the wolf packs of the Viridale and other natural forested areas of Sundren. When you hear wolves baying to each other when you find yourself walking through the woods... it just might be them!
