I've decided on a Dwarf. Not sure what class or sub-race yet.
Sallow is going to be a cheery/eccentric Dwarf with a strong thirst for adventure and bad case of wanderlust. He'll go on almost any adventure just as long as the objective doesn't clash with his conscious and some fame or glory is involved. More than adventure or fame and glory, Sallow wants a chance to make a name for himself by trying to best his already legendary father, Salocin Hakkar, among his clan of dwarves. Most of this wanderlust comes from his father. Proud of his heritage, Sallow can make a full account of his lineage. His father will play an important role in every adventure for Sallow in the sense of invoking his name almost spiritually before setting out on a journey and before every battle.
Despite his respect and "distant" fondness for his father, Sallow always felt a gap in terms of closeness with him. His father was always going off on long journeys spending considerable time away from home and the responsibilities of family. His father did, however, have some sense of responsibility and sent letters with a decent sum of gold to support his family every so often. Leaving him to look after his aging mother and 7 other brothers and sisters as the eldest and 1st son, Sallow bears a small resentment and bitterness toward his father while holding a deep and constant pride and respect for his accomplishments and achievements. It is for this reason that Sallow invoks his father's name.
Torn between these two extremes, Sallow cannot truly love nor truly resent his father. Despite this, there is still a shroud of mystery behind his father and one of the reasons Sallow has set out so far away from his home; the mysterious disappearance of his father.
The few times that his father did return home, Sallow would often tag along and follow him around as if he were some sort of hero. At several local taverns and pubs, his father would tell tall tales of adventure and danger in far off exotic lands showing foreign trinkets, foods, and other items that he had pawned. When Salocin Hakkar was in a bar telling stories, the patrons would always take notice and listen with respect. Just these stories alone couldn't validate his father's heroics however. Some of his critics just wrote him off as a crazy loon who made exaggerated claims. Yet Sallow strongly believed in his father. He and some of the clan had witnessed Salocin Hakkar almost single-handedly defend an attack against his own town on one of his return visits. Had it not been for his father and his band of trusty adventurers, many innocent lives would have been lost before the attack would have finally been driven back. It is for this reason that his stories held so much weight in the local taverns and why his name was something of a legend in the clan.
Tall tales or not, Salocin Hakkar's last visit home was abruptly shortened. One night at a very late hour, Salocin Hakkar came to his son waking him up from his sleep. He then told Sallow that he was in grave danger and must leave home at once for fear of endangering the entire clan. Regrettingly, his father told him that it would be his last return home, and it would be a very long time until sallow would hear from him next; Not until things "were settled" as his father put it. Leaving Sallow a keepsake to remember him by in case things turned out for the worse, Salocin Hakkar left that very night. "I'm shall flee to Sundren" were the last words Sallow heard out of his panicking father's mouth.
Sallow remained skeptic and in denial about his father's dramatic behavior that night for some reason, but he had never had a reason to doubt his words before. Weeks and months passed without any letters or donations from him, and Sallow began to think about the night his father came to him. He wondered about his father's irrational behavior that night. What trouble had his father stumbled into and why? What or where exactly was Sundren? Now at ripe adventuring age, seeking answers, and able to leave care of the family to the 2nd eldest son, Sallow, fearing for the worst, set out for fame, glory, and to discover the mystery behind his father's disappearence.
Purveyor of fine wines, ales, and other spirits, Sallow will also be on a quest to find the perfect alcoholic beverage. This perfect beverage he and his father often argued about and described as a blend of aged alcohol, brandname, and taste that leaves its drinker in a state of sublime heaven (a treasure his father once proclaimed didn't exist). Being a purveyor of fine wines, ales, and spirits, Sallow won't hesitate to try new drinks or refuse a chance to socialize over some brewed ale. when not adventuring, he can sometimes be found in a tavern over some alcohol embelishing on stories about his father when he is "a little one under the eight."
-Note: I didn't mean for the story to get this big. I was bored in between classes at school and got carried away as we writers often do. I still gotta flesh this out a little more too.
