  • Lilene Jora

    *If you frequent the temple barracks or the temple of Ilmater, you may find a parchment tacked to the wall.*

    Fellow Priests and holy warriors;

    I am Constantine, Sacred Fist of Ilmater, Senior Disciple of the Yellow Rose, and initiate of the Disciples of St. Sollars. I am providing this missive in order to instruct all of you on the tactics of one Lilene Jora, Vampire, and wanted felon.

    Alexander Evenwood and I came across the vampire wilst destroying demonic creatures in Argyle. We tried to peacefully bring her in, since she is a wanted criminal, yet she argued and tried to persuade us that she was indeed innocent.

    Finally, we had enough and attempted to subdue her. This is what she did to escape us.

    1. She will try and charm you and persuade you of her innocence and bring you to her side. While this is happening, all of your divinely given spells will wear off, making you more vulnerable to her powers.
    2. She used a portal device to move beyond us into a shadowed area. She then blended with the shadows so that we could not see or hear her.
    3. She will then attempt to escape or attack and destroy you in your weakened state.

    I recommend that she be subdued on sight. Do not attempt to talk or convince her to come peacefully. Attack her on sight.

    Constantine
    Faithful Sacred Fist of Ilmater.

    Dain, upon seeing the letter, sighs dejectedly and promptly organizes another Triad meeting during which he reiterates that yes, all undead are kill-on-sight, and no, we shouldn't let them monologue.

        During the triad meeting, Constantine arises and addresses the assembly and Dain.

        "Yes, you, based on your beliefs and the tenants of your God, tell us to kill-on-sight. That may be as you state; however, we of Ilmater do not cause harm without thought and without provocation. Most undead are not really sentient and are despicable and evil, they should be put to rest on sight. However, the Vampire I was dealing with is a sentient being, has professed their innocence, and I was hoping to bring that person in for justice, not to kill."

        "It is the justice part that I think we forget sometimes. She is wanted by the state, to stand charges. How can she stand charges if she is dead?"

        "However, I know she will not come in willingly; therefore, I will attack-on-sight, to subdue her and bring her in for Justice."

          Aeria would wander into the meeting, peer around, confused, and quickly leave again. Perhaps he got the wrong building...

            Dain fixes his gaze on the Ilmatari.

            "Do not be deceived into thinking an undead creature that sustains itself on blood is innocent. She is not a citizen to stand trial; she is an abomination to be destroyed. If she is truly repentant, then let her present herself to the Triad to find mercy. If she will not seek it, then it will be brought to her by the sword."

              Constantine looks Dain straight in the eye and says;

              "I am no fool Paladin, I merely walk the path that has been given me by Ilmater. It was the matter of mercy, have you forgotten that word, and repentance, another powerful word, that I was trying to impart to this wayward soul. But do not fear, if I ever again come across this creature, it will be put down."

              With that, Constantine eyes the others gathered and walks out of the room.

                Luther, priest of the Triad speaks up on the matter:

                "Let us not forget why we have placed ourselves in the heart of this valley. Do not push out of your minds the reason we have constructed the Temple Barracks within Sundren. It was the dark forces that lie in wait at the very gates of the city that we have come to subdue. With the Just hand of Tyr, the honorable bravery of Torm, and the merciful hand of Ilmater we will push back their darkness. We are the hope of the people and it is in their service we have sworn ourselves.

                The people, the law, and even our honor demands that we protect them from the machinations these tainted creatures inflict upon them. They will find their peace with the righteous hands of the three united."

                  As the Ilmatari leaves the chamber, Dain easily reverts his attention to the remaining gathering, patiently hearing Luther's inspiration before he adds:

                  "When you wonder whether or not it is righteous to put your sword to use, remember that the evil, itself, is the provocation. As Brother Luther says, it is our sacred duty to protect this Valley from the Black Hand and all its other evils. Mercy for any that will accept it, aye, and for the rest, righteous zeal. It is not our duty to tolerate the wicked.

                  "As for the undead, remember that theirs is an existence of endless hunger and agony. If the sentient seek redemption, we offer it; the greatest mercy we can offer those creatures is the end of their undeath, whether they want it or not. It is not their choice."
