Sumi Intro (new character)
Appearance and Abilities:
Sumi is short, with black hair and dark eyes. She's quite sexy, and she knows it. A well trained monk, she has great athletic skill and grace. She is also fairly smart, and knows some simple alchemical recipes. Like all monks, she practices strict self discipline and has a tight control of her mind and body. Unlike some monks, she practices the arts of stealth as well.
As a member of the Order, she has a large tattoo of the head of a black dragon on her upper back. It stretches from shoulder to shoulder and reaches about halfway down her back. Exquisitely detailed in black ink, with every scale, fang, and horn perfectly etched in her skin. Getting it must have been exceedingly painful. On her lower back, under the dragon head, are three small tattoos. Simple symbols arranged in three points of an incomplete pentagon, these represent her rank. Of course she keeps these covered at all times when in public.
Personality:
Sumi is quite arrogant. Proud even of her tainted heritage she values the honor of the Order very highly. She is vain as well, and spends plenty of time taking care of her appearance. She can also be very cold hearted when dealing in business matters. While she doesn't enjoy hurting others, it doesn't cause her any pangs of guilt either. A bit bitter, she hides her jealousy of her more fortunate half siblings. She can be kind to those who know her well and befriend her, but few have ever done that.
History:
Sumi is the illegitimate daughter of the leader of the Order. Her true ancestry is a closely guarded secret within the Order, known only to those of 4th rank and above. (not counting Sumi) The Dragon* showed uncharacteristic mercy in letting her live, and she has always strove her utmost to meet the Order's expectations, if only to stay in his good graces. She has been promoted unusually fast for someone of her modest skill, and is by far the weakest 3rd rank ever to reach that level**. While she is not a bad monk, she is certainly no prodigy. Rather than favoritism, the real reason for her high rank is so she could be given her own region, with no other members in it, and be kept out of the way where she can not cause any trouble or embarrassment. Of course that new region is Sundren, and Sumi fully intends to preform her vague orders and establish a new section of the Order here. Whether she will be successful remains to be seen.
Background of the Order:
The Order of the Fist of the Black Dragon is rather new. Recently founded by its mysterious leader, it is a power hungry order of evil monks. Though their true goal is to enhance their own abilities and gain rule over others, to outsiders the Order may appear as an assassins guild, body guards, and any number of other jobs that they chose to take on. Few people see more than one aspect of the Order, and their true nature remains unknown to most.
The Order is quite utilitarian in its power structure. There are five ranks which are known only by their number. The top rank, 5th, is reserved for the leader. Known as The Black Dragon inside the Order, he is feared by all. 4th rank is for regional commanders. 3rd rank is for local commanders. 2nd rank is for initiates who have proved themselves enough to preform jobs in the Order's name without supervision. 1st rank is for initiates. The life of a first ranked person is quite rough, constantly supervised and expected to abide by harsh personal discipline. Each member has a series of tattoos on their back, one for each rank they have achieved, in addition to the dragon head tattoo all members bear.
Generally, jobs are sought out and accepted by the local commander, a 3rd rank member. The local commander will then gather the resources to accomplish the task. This usually involves gathering 2nd and 1st rank members and supplies, but the Order has been known to hire mercenaries to help them as well, as their membership is still quite small. Once the task is completed payment is accepted by the commander. 4th rank members tasks are to supervise the local commanders, and more importantly, keep a sharp eye out for reports of new training methods or valuable artifacts that can be used to make the Order more powerful. Hearing of such an item or bit of knowledge the 4th rank will personally see to its acquisition. New artifacts and techniques are delivered directly to the Black Dragon himself, the only 5th rank. His job is to do whatever he likes
