  • DDHS Dept. of Dwaven Homeland Security

In the corner of the Second Wind tavern sits a young dwarf with yellow hair and beard. He munches on an unlit stoggie, a cup of dice sits up ended next to his pint.

He has been let his inquiries be known, they often have to do with the security measures that are commonly used by the denizens of the caves and forests in sundren.

Kygon, as he calls himself, is likely to buy you a drink if you have any useful information to offer him. Especially if you know who is providing the plans and the engineering skills.

It was hard being away from the Mountain Home. Here they had no feast halls, no quite places where the air was thin enough to clear your head, and worst of all, no good ales. Though he had heard that Murin might be in the valley somewhere. If he could only find out where the Brewmaster's tasty beverages were being served.

The stoggie, that had been new just a short time ago, was nearly gone. Not lit of course, but frustration had gnawed away at the cigar just as frustration gnawed away at his gut.

Months of research and he had only come up with more questions. Well that was not entirely true. He had a few items of value. They would not stop any sizable assault though, so Kygon's search continued. Sure the mountain home was well constructed but it was vast, much of it was being renovated and recovered from its ancient glory.

There were too many unknowns up there. Secret tunnels and chambers were discovered daily. The mountain home was not prepared for any focused assault, at least not in Kygon's estimation.

He had been sent down into the valley to study other defenses. To hone his skill in bypassing them, undermining them, and ultimately reconstructing and recombining them to make more effective security systems for Bristlebeard's Hollow.

He spat out the soggy stump of his stoggie and downed rest of his too watery ale. He tossed a few coins on the table and set out.

He had a a few leads, some were even promising, some potentially dangerous, and some both.

There was one who possessed the technologies he would use to secure the Mountain Home, but what would be the cost.

Also, the bandits in the foothills seemed to have mastered self-resetting traps. For all his skill, Kygon had been unsuccessful in pulling them up for reverse engineering. Those would be perfect for defense in the tight passages of the Hollow. If he could only master their manufacture.

Perhaps a trip into the bandits lair would yield information. He would need a team to accomplish such an incursion. Murin again came to mind. He was always up for battle. One more kinsman would be sufficient, two more would assure success.

First things first. Rolo was due a report. Perhaps he could arrange the delivery of some of Kygon's progress to Bristlebeard's Hollow.

Kygon grabbed his pack and a second package destined for the snowy peaks and headed off to meet with Rolo.
