  • Message to the Abbot

The sun had only risen a few hours when a group of exhausted adventures came through the Temple of Helm's front doorway. Leading the way was a woman who smelled of grasshoppers and the outdoors followed by a short bearded man with a cape and lastly a tired eyed man with sun darkened skin dressed in decent clothing.

"Abbot," the well-dressed man said, "Its me again, Zarak. We've just come from the sewers. There are more bodies!"

The man had more to say but he and his group were panting heavily. The woman spoke up, "bodies and some evil looking shadows too!"

The bearded man spoke quickly, shivering as he spoke, "and that wicked floating sword!"

The well dressed man continued. "After I had talked with you before, I went back into the sewers. There was a floating sword in the room were I had carried the other bodies from earilier." He cringed for a moment. "The sword... it was hacking at these new corpses. It hacked over and over again until a dark ooze came out of them forming into shadowy figures. I went to summon the city guard, met my companions, and I lead one of the city guard's mages back to the scene. She managed to kill several of the shadows but the floating sword came..."

The man paused for a moment as if reliving the scene. "She... She placed a wall to help protect me and told me to run. I heard her scream as I went for help. After some difficulties I met back up with my companions here who had also run into the floating sword in the sewers."

The man took a deep breath again and continued. "The mage told me before she died that the floating sword had been seen only at night attacking people. At this point the sun started to rise so my companions and I thought we might be able to head back down and save the mage's body before something worse happened. Only we were met by several wraith-like forms, one of which casted spells very much like the city watch mage did. That thing was too much for us so after a brief fight we ran back and decided to inform you."

The well dressed man had now calmed himself after retelling his story. His face hardened. "Abbot, something has to be done about this Floating Sword. It was creating evil things from these corpses in the sewer. Is there something you or the authority of this city can do?"

(((For DM info it was Zarak Haakon, Raina Blake, and Gilin Wolvesbane in the group. Sorry, I wrote fast and I'm a bit tired.)))

The abbot takes the message in stride patiently between the messengers gasps. He lays a hand on Zaraks shoulder and says. You folk are both brave and extremely lucky. We are indeed working towards a way to find our killer, but don't let the tavern talk fool you. We have good reason to believe that this floating sword may be a necromancer of some sort playing on our fears with an invisibility spell or something similar. Who it may be is cause for speculation, but there are those who wish to do harm to the state, and we find this could be a tactic in fear to get everyone worked up. I highly reccomend that unless you feel that you are competant enough to face this killer that you, and those you know never travel alone.
