  • Diety question

(Selune is chaotic good) Chaotic Neutral character who worships Selune decides to join forces with some evil characters for a while:

    1. Would Selune be upset / react to one of her followers associating with these evil characters?

    2. If the character actually did something evil (which wouldnt really be that out of character IMO for a chaotic neutral) how would Selune react if at all? Smite them?

-- when responding to the example, specify if you are talking about a chaotic good god in general or Selune in particular.

-- hopefully this thread branches off into a general discussion of diety interactions and rping technique after the initial question is answered.

Will your interactions with those evil characters be productive in the service of and to the benefit of Selune? It's all about intentions or cause and effect. Does the end justify the means and does your diety believe in this concept?
These are questions you must answer when making actions that even slightly oppose your diety's chosen dogma. Of course, you could always ask forgiveness later, but will she hear your burbling?

"Dreams... such fertile ground for the seeds of torment. I can sense your ripeness and, oddly enough, it is time for the harvest. Please, save your tears... I intend to reap your sorrow slowly and have ages to discover the things that make you suffer... I am eager to revel in the sweet melody of your screams and the melancholy of your despair..."

Do the means also violate any of the dogma of your deity? Are you associating with your deity's enemies? Things like that need to be factored in for me to give you a good answer.

Deities tend to not care so much about what worshippers do. It's their clergy that really needs to stay in line.

That said, Sel?ne would probably not be happy with a worshipper or divine servant that associates with followers of Shar. Still, the worst that could happen would probably be that the worshipper suddenly finds him or herself faithless before Kelemvor, or that the servant finds him or herself stripped of divine blessings.

Valuable, if slightly out of date, information on Selune can be found here:
          http://www.nj-pbem.com/data/Gods/humangods/Sel%FBne.htm

Dogma, day-to-day activities, vestments and adventuring garb are interesting highlights.

Selune being a good goddess, she'll probably nonetheless appreciate good done for her sake or in her name. She's not likely to look favorably on evil acts and yeah - she hates Shar, a lot.

As said by others, you'd only really worry about retribution from Selune if you were a Cleric or Paladin in her service.

You're clear to associate with whomever you want; part of Selune's dogma is comprehensive tolerance and acceptance of anyone "touched by her light," so I guess that excludes Underdark races, if you're being literal. *shrug*

As far as doing evil...any good god(dess) will frown on that, but as long as you're being the neutral part of CN and balancing the good with the bad, you'd have no reason to sweat it.

Dalon Arogard: It's this. *busts a move*
            Llew Hy: A strange compulsion...
Mirumoto Akagi: I suppose you can dance if you like, but you're leaving our friends behind, and they're not dancing.
Dalon Arogard: Then they're no friends of mine.
