  • Night of Blood

((Feel free to add your own posts, for people who 'took place' in the battle around Sundren against the Advent))

Howls filled the night, screams ran rampant through the air as Port Avanthyr was besought by foul beings of undeath. Red eyes and flashing blades filled the night as the battle between the Dark Advent and the Legion grew strong, blood filling the gutters.

A young girl ran across the alley, sobbing to herself as the shadows threatened to claim her and her young brother, being toted along while bawling. The child skidded to a stop and hid behind a fisherman's catch, hoping the stink of the fish would hide them.

Tall shadows filled the alley as people ran by screaming for their lives, torches lighting the small street for a brief moment as the tear streaked faces of the girl and her brother peeked out over the barrels, meeting the gaze of a predator, a huge vampire at least two meters high. A slow wicked smile crossed his face, showing lots, and lots, of teeth.

A muffled gasp and sob by the girl confirmed what she already knew: she was about to die. Or worse, become one of the afflicted. As the large vampire reached over the barrels, long claws ending in rotting nails sharp enough to pierce flesh, he stiffened. A look of confusion crossed his face as he looked down.

There was a glowing blade, energy crackling across his body as the sword pierced his internal organs. While normally this would have made the vampire chuckle, the blade grew brighter and seared the flesh and bone, leaving a gaping hole inside the vampire's chest. With a snarl and a great act of will he yanked himself off and turned quickly to face the owner of the blade that burned so fiercely in the presence of evil, and was foolish enough to try to use it against him, a powerful demon of darkness.

The last thing the vampire saw was a burning butt of a cigar as his head rolled away.

The fearsome one eyed warrior turned to the children, flicking away the butt. "Hey, you damn kids. Come on, I'll get you outta here safely." Too shocked to protest, the little girl and boy were swept into his arm as he sheathed the glowing blade. Suddenly they were moving fast, faster than anyone wearing armor and holding a two children should be able to. The streets blurred by the girl's eyes as she prayed that this night would end, and not at the hands of some foul demon.

The night slowed down as the Legionaire's pace was paused by a group of bloodthirsty vampires, feasting on a corpse.

Peridan put the two children down and looked at them hard, kneeling for a moment, and murmuring words of a protection spell on each of them. "Shut your eyes, children. There ya go, everything will be all right." He promised them softly, closing their eyes gently with a gauntlet hand. The vampires paused in their feast to sniff the salty ocean air, and turn to Peridan with renewed hunger in their eyes. The little boy sobbed, choking out words.

"The-they're gonna eat u-us." He clutched his sister crying. Peridan replied quietly. "Corellon knows that you are the innocent. That's why he sent me." He stood, facing the pack of demons. "Make sure your eyes stay closed." He says to the children as he walks forward, unhurriedly. A bright light began to grow in his palm as he murmured the words taught to him ages ago by his people, growing hotter and shining as fiercely as the sun does when breaking through the dark clouds gathered. He raised his palm above his head and shouted.

    "Corellon grant me Light!"

A blast of light sent a shockwave around him, incinerating the vampires against their howls of protest. Light filled the alleyways for just a moment, blasting away vampires as though they were simply a soft breeze, only there for a moment. The light in his palm died down, as he turns to the children, the light fading behind him. He picked them up, one in each arm, and took them out of the bloody night.

Grindle awoke the morning following the carnage across the city with his head still swimming with images of blood, teeth and masked women floating above the earth.

He lay in his bed, trying to make sense of the events of the previous night; the initial skirmish, the battles throughout Mirakus and the bewildering events in the Trimulative temple. Finally, after an hour or so of deliberation, he out onto the city streets, surveying the devastation all around him as he headed towards the city library.

Finding a quiet table away from prying eyes, he sets down the large pile of books he's collected, before pulling himself up onto the seat.

“Self-important buggers're gonna get us all killed”, he mutters quietly to himself, flicking through the first book: “An Adventurer's Account of the Undead”.
