OMG! Computer help!

This is such bull! After leaving for work today a possibilty of my mom, my cousin, her son or whoever, and now its not working!

My comp is hay-wire and is going in a reboot loop..

I start up the comp and it always goes to the:

"We apologize for the inconvinience.. blah blah blah"
Select mode of startup:

Safe mode
Sade move w/ blah
blah blah

Last working setup

Normal start up.

None of them work and they all end up just having my comp rebooting to the same screen..

Help! I'm not sure if its a virus, and i can't get inside to do a system restore saved point i have.. If all else fails I'm going to have to system
restore the whole thing from the ice ages.

Actually now i'm stuck on the DOS setups.. I can't even run my motherboard cd-rom to system restore.

Hope someone can help..

The screen your referring to is the BSOD, or blue screen of death. It has long been around with windows. It is most likely a hardware/driver issue causing the problem.

So i'll ask a few questions:
1) Are you overclocking your system? If so, go back to stock settings just for the time being, then find your sweet spot again.
2) MOST, but not all BSODs are caused by video drivers. Did you make any video driver changes recently?
3) Try booting into VGA compatibility mode.

4) Let me know how it goes.

A solution that's almost failsafe (albeit a bit complicated to some), download a linux livecd (doens't matter which distribution, ubuntu's probably the easiest), from it you can mount your windows partitions, resize and save data to other partitions, and then do a fresh windows install.

Afterwards, merely transfer the data back to the windows partitions and join the exisiting partitions back.

I've learned over the years that practically any window$ distribution is a living thing, a beast that grows bigger and bigger for each passing day, and it's best to do a complete reformat now and then.

One of the reasons why I have liked Vista so far. It keeps pretty tight track of where everything is installed on your system and the virtual folders help with organization. It's much cleaner in the sense that your system isn't going to degrade in performance from regular use after a few months.

^^ It was not bad advice, and anyone can download a linux live cd for free... Linux is what it is.. it's a stable operating system. Not perhaps the most user friendly, but dependable. Alas, no games...

Anywho, I disagree w/ the degrading winders thing. If you maintain an install, it should continue to work well for you.
