Or any other games... For now.. For some unknown reason (seems to be the GPU overheating but not sure) my computer crashes, with no BSOD or any warning. Just "Poof" its off, Everytime I attempt to play any game. I play like 2 min or so and it dies.. So until I come up with the money to fix this somehow.. I am stuck with a brand new gaming computer that i cant play games with.

Had that problem before. It was a GPU issue.

But its hard to verify unless you have a spare GPU card to compare the stability.

Check the temperature - you could well be right about the heat issue. But it could be any component, not just the GPU.
With luck it's a simple matter of replacing the heat sink paste.

There is a little program called Speedfan that can be useful: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

I had the same problem, it was a chip overheating.

Two reasons why your computer is going to power off with no warning while playing a game.

          1) A component is overheating, possibly GPU or CPU ...

Everest is a good program to check your GPU temps. Google this and you can find it, it's not hard to google your video card model and CPU model and find what the safe temps are either.

          2) Most likely it's your Power Supply, a dying power supply or a power supply that has insufficient power will cause the system to power down for example when playing games (when you launch a game, your GPU/CPU consumes more power, and if the PSU can't handle it, it chokes).

I would guess it's probably #2, but it doesn't hurt to check temps first.

Oh and don't forget to get some compressed air and clean that case out first -- dust is the enemy of any computer and can cause more problems than you think.

Darn was going to see If I could get them to scrub it with a toothbrush

Actually another thing that can cause this too is the cpu fan on the video card not working right, not very common but does happen.

Ram can do it as well, I see alot of craptastic ram out there that creates all kinds of wonders.

But typically its a cheap power supply, if its an E-Machine. Then the power supply is junk.

Ram causes bluescreens usually followed by a 00000x7e error code. A sudden loss of power will not be memory related.

Sometimes though if its "Value Ram" it can make the machine Cycle. Just BLIP and back to boot up. There is cheap ram, and crap ram. PNY makes some terrible crap too.

did not remeber if the orginal post was a Power off or power down problem.

Its pretty rare, and power supply is alot more likely chances are the fan in it quit or barely works.

OH, and if you smoke in the house a good idea would be to replace the fans in the system. Also clean those heat sinks under the fans as well.

Im sure that is a ATX Power Supply problem.
If the computer turns on well, no problem beeps on the BIOS, good screen image and well performance outside the games, it's just the power supply not feeding well the demands.

Wow.. Lots of responses. Well thanks for all the input but about 5 min after I posted this i knew the answer... GPU temps through the roof. Must be poor ventilation in my new case. Well I got a new heatsink for cheap and should have it soon. Until then I have a crappy old video card in with nwn2 on very low settings...

Well I doubt that.. I have a 750W PSU for a fairly modest build ((plus I ran this on 600W for a long time)). C2D E8400, 8800gt, Ballistix 2x1GB, WD green HDD.. Nothing is too power hungry. Could probably be fine with 500W.

I have a 500W PSU and it's fine, but few people always have new Motherboards and that stuff runing in their ol'good 400W PSU and blames the hardware store.

All of that equipment would probably even run on 400W.

I had this problem a few years back playing NWN1

I got new RAM and more off it but then it started to happen again later qand got even worse.

I then bought a new Motherboard and CPU and even more RAM.
                              That spanked it for sure.
