  • Leaving, on a Jet Plane....

So, on January first I'll be leaving with hopefully what will turn out to be a massive hangover to the airport to head to Israel for ten days.

Of course, I have been reading the news recently, but I don't think there will be any problems *crosses fingers*

So I'll be looting my room and checking out. And if anything does happen...well, if you don't hear from me after a month, you can donate my gear to Smithing Toys for Smidgens, the orphan group of children who dream of becoming blacksmiths known throughout the land.

Anyway, if I don't see you in game tomorrow for a bit, I'll smell ya later!

I'm back from Israel, that little strip of land at the center of the world with the best falafel I have ever tasted. To really describe the experience I think would be hard to do. Because when asked what I did, I can simply list the activites that we did from a sheet of paper. When asked what kind of people I met, I can just say Jews. But to truly describe the time I had would take a page or twenty. To capture the experience would mean being able to describe the bone chilling waters of Ein Gedi and its waterfalls, or the wind in the Negev that seeps through anything that you happen to be wearing just to give you that chill that you can feel from the tips of your toes to your fingers. The smell of the camels in itself is inherently so bad that any form of medium would probably spontaneously combust.

Jerusalem of course was a "holy city". But to describe the feeling watching people walk around the Kotel, or to explain the alley ways that smelled of exotic spices and things unimaginably strange to anyone from the West is too hard. The Galilee reflected the sky so perfectly that you couldn't tell were on ended that the other began, and to explain how the Dead Sea made you float brings a grin to my face every time. Sfat, the ancient mountain city that lives in the clouds was so quiet, so serene that it makes the desert loud by comparsion besides the occasional shriek of the crows.

The beaches on Tel Aviv had sand so pure, so white, that you could lay on it all day and let the sun gently boil the blood in your body while the cool breeze of the Mediterranean cooled it off.
To say nothing of the people would be like saying I just walked around. I met so many different people, Arabs, Jews, Yemenites, Beoudins, and one crazy Kabbalic scholar from Detroit who moved to Israel and has been there ever since.

But to describe the people that I traveled with, their personalities and the countless stories would be too much, even compared to the rest. All I can say is that being in Israel made me feel wanted, made me feel whole with my friends and companions around me.

Also, I have also made the horrible mistake of falling for an absolutely gorgeous woman. Sadly, there is no way out.

        Pictures will also be forthcoming!
