      - CPU Opteron 175 (overlocked - 2.5 GHz, 2 cores for the eyewitnesses with the 1MB L2 ),
      - 2 GB of RAM,
      - GeForce 8800 GT (Leadtech - 512 MB),
      - Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality,
      - 750 GB HDD (250 GB Western Digital, 500 GB Samsung),
      - improved silenced cooling,
      - nice aluminium case under the TV (looks like nice DVD ),
      - LG 20 LCD (1680x1050) in the same style like the TV.

I was surprised that such an old machine was able to run Fallout 3 (really great game!) with the full resolution (1680x1050) and full details with 8x8 AA, so I'm not going to change it in the nearest future.

Hate to beat a dead horse but...

I wanted to express my thanks towards those who posted here. I've been having issues with choppy graphics on NWN2 while my GeForce 7300 GS runs other newish games perfectly fine. After reading this thread, I've decided to build another system to replace my store-bought Compaq.

The rig I'm looking to order on Thursday/Friday consists of:

              - Sunbeam Transformer Black Steel ATX Full Tower Case w/ 4 fans
              - ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
              - GeForce 8800 GT Video Card (one for each computer here)
              - Athena 500W ATX12V Ver. 2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply
              - Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz Quad-Core Processor
              - 3-4GB Corsair RAM (2 x 2GB pack, may get 2 or split 1 pack)
              - WD 250GB Hard Drive

I'll reuse my DVD drive and (hopefully) my flash card slots. My old 80 gig hard drive will become a network storage drive for storing files we use on both computers.

Any suggestions to reduce the cost on this setup would be helpful. From what I could tell, this would be able to run Age of Conan so it better run NWN2!
              /rant

Not much you can do to make that computer cheaper, but you may want to spend a bit more on your videocard. A 7300 GS is a paper weight pretty much, and although the 8800GT is a good card, I would recommend moving up to the 9800GT.

Don't want to get a new videocard and already need to get something better... also 9800GT is very cheap now.

Ooo, Didn't see this post before, guess I'll post my rig here.

                  Intel Quad 2.9 @ 3.2
                  2x 8800GTX in SLI
                  2x 150gig 10,000rpm Raptor's in RAID
                  2 gig ram
                  500gig WD data drive

I'm on windows 32 version, so not much point in more ram until I get 64. My other rig plays Nwn2 Fine, and is pretty cheap.

                  AMD 4400+ 64 x2
                  2gb DDR2
                  320gig SATA 7,200rpm
                  8600 GTS

No problems with it running nwn2, and can play fallout 3 as well decently.

I didn't think I could go much lower without going back to the stone age on this thing. *sigh*

Ever since my fiance read a review on Age of Conan stating that the 8800GT performed at the same level as the 9800GT, he's been adamant about getting them, plus they're only $109 on newegg.

Since he's decided that he wants to double the order on the vid cards and RAM, the amount I have to spend has been cut down to roughly $650-$700 and there's only so many corners you can cut, ya know.

I thought about snagging an Intel Core 2 Duo (E series) but a close friend of mine strongly suggested the quad core so I have to cut back somewhere.

Depends on what you do, if you game... invest the money in the card. You'll regret it otherwise.

Too true. I honestly think a large part of my problem is RAM. We're both currently running 1GB a piece and I've tried explaining to him that there's no point in getting 4GB a piece unless I upgrade to an x64 system. This system is suppose to support x64. I tried installed a 64-bit copy of Windows that a friend brought over and it spit out an error stating it's an x86 system and cannot support 64-bit functionality or some BS.

I was really wanting to order from newegg (specifically for the case) but I think I'll cave and use both tiger and egg. I'll just convince him to order everything over the course of the next few weeks because I refuse to budge when it comes to my board. hehe I'll order 2 9800's and the ram on Friday so we can atleast start playing next week.

The one thing that's hanging me up on ordering is the PSU. I know I'll need around 500W or so but I'm trying to make sure I have enough voltage on the rails. Wouldn't want to get a power supply that couldn't run everything.

500W is fine, just don't buy a budget PSU... A quality PSU is not that expensive at 500W, I use a Corsair Toughpower and they have served me well so far.
