Well as many of you know I’m a WoW addict so you won't see me around that often till I get my character to level 80. And I also need to quell my Fallout addiction.

So go out there and kick some ass on my behalf.

I have to say only this about WoW. (Replace Everquest in the comic with NWN2)

On that note, expect the entire server to have devil slaying weapons when you get back =P
      Characters:
Peridan Twilight, one-eyed dog of the Legion, deceased.
Daniel Nobody, adventurer and part time problem solver.

I need to create a filter for this forum to censor out any mentioning of "WoW" or Warcraft, etc.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

World of Warcrack has cast away depth in favor of mass appeal.. I still love the world and lore, but it's sad that in what is supposedly an RPG that it only plays a background role rather than something the player can truly engage in. I'm still waiting for the first MMO to change that concept (there are some in which what the player does makes a difference, but story is mostly absent there), though I think that might never really be made due to it probably being uneconomical

The first letter in MMO stands for Mass(ive), which goes right along with mass appeal. I don't think you'll ever find an MMO that places RP and story first.

I agree you will never find a MMO that places RP first, but as for story, Guild Wars did a very good job bringing the story to the forefront, althougth its not considered a true MMORPG.

The way I've always seen it, is that the M just stands for a massive world with space for a great many players. Which doesn't mean it has to be made with the conception that the game itself must be tailored to appease everyone, including those who only want to 'fire up the game and play', with little interest in involving themselves in an ongoing story.

The initial idea behind the game Shadowbane has probably come the closest to breaching that barrier, with RP servers where they actually had a 'herald' page online that documented all the major DM-run events and the key players involved. Describing the biggest of the ongoing wars between the player-forged kingdoms and all. It was destroyed by the many leaks in the poorly built system and hackers and exploiters breaking it entirely, however.

The original everquest also had DM-run events and world changing following up on it, and while I found some RP there, the vast majority of players outright ignoring it or 'sabotaging' it just for the hell of it made it impossible too.

Originally, WoW also promised to bring DM run events. But they slowly let that promise die down until more or less everyone forgot about it. Reason? It requires a huge staff = higher costs = less bucks for Blizzard.

Oh well.. don't think I'll go back for WotLK, but I wish you fun playing it nonetheless Anks

There are RP based MMOs out there, they are like golddust with vanadium sprinkles though

WoW sucks btw, I played for two years.. You do know after WotLK your going to be outclasses by a whole load of easily attainable 100% drops when the next expanion comes out right? Blue drops are like white trash on Burning Crusade, its going to be the same every six months when a new expanion comes out... just thought i'd warn you Anks
