  • LHC - Doomsday device?

    http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/science...ern/index.html

Maybe, It will be used..later tonight

I highly doubted though, there is a bit of concearn over it.

I thought it was pretty much decided that it would be. Of course the dangers have been played down by some parties heh.

Me, I'm not sure what to believe.

Well, the thing is they aren't actually trying to unearth the 'God partical' anymore. After thorough experiments to calculate what could and might happen during particle collisions when brought to speeds of light, they've discovered a great inconsistency with their theory; namely mistakes made when understanding time (as a dimension).

Now the math isn't perfect, however, it's probably the closest they'll get to the answer -- The God particle does not exist. The big bang is a hoax, and the birth of the universe, figured out through math and science, is decidedly my left testicle.

The project is dropped because the device does not have the energy to replicate my testicle, even on a smaller scale, and they will not have the technology to replicate such until, and I quote, "When super-cool Iron Man flying suits are common in households."

        Go figure.

Seriously, it's not a doomsday device. The total energy involved in the collision isn't anything unusual. Fact is, particle collisions involving similar amounts of energy take place at the outer edge of the atmosphere all the time (not to mention around the sun). Stress not people; doing it in a lab doesn't make it a universe-ender.

And if it does you can be sure it will be a great show!

I for one am very excited about this experiment, and will be very interested to read the results. And Mach is right, the sun is a self-contained nuclear fusion reactor, which requires and maintains an energy level far greater than mankind has yet discovered the technology to replicate. Having said that, if they did we would all be engulfed in fiery death.

Eventually , the sun will "eat" Mercury and Venus , leaving us dangerously close to its surface.Though, by that time , we will all be worm food or inside a cool little vase.

Also , folding space , would be better than light speed. =p

Once the machine is in full operation, two streams of invisible protons will be whipped up in opposite directions around an underground racetrack to 99.999999 percent of the speed of light. When the two waves of protons slam into each other, scientists expect particles to melt into bits of energy up to 100,000 times hotter than the sun's core
May not be that far off according to this.

A smaller one of these has already been in operation for a few years now. Most of the people fretting about creating a black hole that will devour the Earth are people who don't know a thing about science and are making wild paranoid guesses as to what will happen. I'm sure that with the amount of brain-heads involved with the project, they're more than assured that such a thing isn't possible.
