  • Appraise Skill FAQ

Tonight I saw a player didn't quite realize how appraise worked when we were looking at an item, so I thought I'd give you some of the mechanics behind it

First off, you must target an item for the skill to automate, else your just rolling dice in the wind.

Next the game looks at your base Appraise score (without buffs and modifiers)
If the base score is 0 (you've never taken a single rank in it) then it does this:
IF your appraise roll fails you cannot appraise the item. Period.
IF your appraise roll passes you appraise the approximate price (50% to 150% of the real price)
If the base score is 1 or more you have a chance at accurately appraising the item.
If your rolls fails you get an approximate price (50% to 150%) of the real value.
If your roll passes, you get the real value (100%).

Keep in mind the roll is secret so you will never know if you pass or fail, you just get either a "You cannot appraise this" or a price returns to you.

I hope this clears up some misconceptions about it and makes life easier when selling and buying items from my elf.

You'll see I got it really really close to pnp when you look here.
only thing left out was the crafting synergy, dwarf, raven and diligent bonuses (due to mechanics)
