  • Will you be interested?

So the latest news is there are two new classes for SOZ, the swashbuckler (from Complete Warriors Handbook) and the doomguide (Faiths and Panthenns)
    Will these interest anyone?

Swashbucklers are pretty awesome... I think I might play one of those if they were available (though not if everyone made one just like there are so many fighter/rogues out there already). As for the doomguide, I'm not quite sure what it is

      Doomguides.Swashbucklers.

I would be interested in the Doomguide. But I think it would be best as something that you need to earn some way or another.

Thanks for the info. The class would kind of kill Yashia's uniqueness and her one strength. Hmm..

Doomguides likely won't be available in Sundren due to the patron deity.

Swashbuckler? I think that would make the duelist PrC obsolete, or vice versa, and I was thinking of making Aratil into a duelist later on. So no thanks on that one.
Doomguide? Cool idea, but like Saul said, I don't know anyone who worships Kelemvor on our server. The closest I can think of is my Velsharoonian wizard.

            So there's my two stags.

Yuan worships Kelemvor. The problem is that there is no temple to the deity to initiate these Doomguides.

They both look great to me. Hopefully the Doomguide can be renamed and given to another god for Sundren purposes.

There was a Kelemvorite Temple in the Necropolis, wasn't there? It just burned down.

Did Kelemvor give up on Sundren? That's actually kind of an interesting way to explain all the resurrection and death avoidance that has to happen in a PW.

They don't interest me in the least.

However, I can't understand why Doomguides wouldn't be allowed in Sundren. Unless Kelemvor is dead or deposed as god of the dead, whats really standing in the way? Lack of a temple should be totally irrelevant.

In fact, if you read the link offered by Llew, it specifically says Doomguides are usually not attatched to temples. Doomguides would make more sense here than regular priests of Kelemvor. And really limiting any divine class to needing a temple is just silly. Its totally unnecessary in Faerun.

I'll stop you before you say the rest. That's all I'm commenting on the matter for now.

I don't think there's anything to say a cleric couldn't leave Sundren temporarily to be initiated. It's not like the Gates are welded shut and ships stranded. And yes, the temple outside the Necropolis was once a functional temple to Kelemvor. I think it was burned down because it was a resting place too close to a spawn.

As for resurrections and death avoidance - as far as my character sees those, its not the character's time to die yet. As Yuan would put it, Do not battle, nor fear, death's embrace. But neither should life be given up so easily.

Kelemvor's the god of the dead, but he's definitely not Velsharoon.

In regards to the original topic of this thread, I adore swashbucklers. :P And I don't see what the problem with Doomguide would be, specific deity or no.

I'm playing the only Duelist on the server as far as I have seen. You really gotta crank up the dex just to make them viable to fight without armor. The Swashbuckler is nice because you can still wear a chain shirt and get the benefits.

Which Swash would you use? The one in the Complete Warrior or the one linked in the Wiki which is totally different. Or is there another one?

Looking at their implementation of previous classes as a basis for my answer, they'll use a class from the 3.5 documents (complete warrior) over a MSRD web page.
