I have nothing against Vista or MS in general but man that's just extortion...
Enforcing people and especially companies to purchase a new set of Vistas for their computers by taking the program out of the market and killing the updating?
Where did the "serving customers' wishes" -attitude dissappear?

      The 1960's.

This is what's wrong with America today: between Price-Gouging, Planned Obsolescence, and Outsourcing the gap between the "haves" and the "have-nots" just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

I made a vow at the beginning of this year that I would not buy anything new. This includes Vista, along with clothes, gadgets, games, etc. I even had to wait til I could get a used copy of the 4E books that I was eagerly waiting for.

I'm not doing this for the environment really, just stickin it to the man. My point is that we all have enough already and we don't need even more crap. I'm not buying in to the hype this year, maybe next year too!

I may be really old.. but hasn't Microsoft been doing this since oh... 1995? Is this really new?
Lately the only thing that keeps me from wishing for a worldwide disaster... is that it would probably interrupt my network connection

As far as I know they didn't do this to Windows 98, at least not as quickly as they're doing with XP. They do tend to pull this kinda' stuff on most of their products though.

If MAC and Linux were as accommodating with games I would definitely work on switching.

I really respect that. Not buying anything new, I mean.

Most people have heard the three R's, being Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle, but everyone forgets that it's actually supposed to be in that order. But here's good ol' Nickbeat, leading by example.

Power to the people man! There is enough stuff in the world right now to serve everyone for the next 10 years. We don't need any new cars, clothes, toys, gadgets, etc. All we need are consumables like paper, and food.

Of course if everyone did like I did, then our economy would collapse!

Nonsense. We just redirect our wasted resources towards intellectual pursuits and become the ultimate technological and cultural powerhouse, exporting both. Or redirect our industrial capacity towards making goods for export. Either way, it's all about getting the world to buy our stuff instead of buying the rest of the world's stuff, so we get the moneys to continue to do whatever we want...

I just realized I wrote this under the assumption that you're from the U.S. So, this probably applies to a lot of countries, but I have the U.S. in mind with this little rant.

Oh yeah, I'm from the U.S. of A for sure. I'd love to see a shift toward more of an intellectual and service industry focus for this country, but the real money is in moving large objects around.

                    That might change.
