How does one get a title? I imagine some are granted, but there are some that you grant yourself. For example, I posted in RP about Katie coming to find herself, to decide what it is she really believes. And in that post she names herself the "Lady of the Knife" Which is a title that has meaning to her, and one she might use IC to people she trusts. Is this permitted? I'd like to know before I use it, and update her wiki page.

Though, I'm sure you could give yourself a title, you'd need to run it past a DM before throwing it around. Else we'll have "Jalmar - Farmer and Servant of the Loyal Potato." and other self proclaimed titles flying about.

Well, there is no reason you can't call yourself anything you want while IG. It's pretty realistic to imagine that people make up crap to call themselves all the time.

Now, putting that title in your characters actual name would require a DM, as would having the title be officially recognized by a governing body while IG.

But really, if Karthus decided to call himself the captain of shut the **** up, nobody would be able to stop him. I'm sure your knife title can work just as well.

I'll talk to a DM, there is a reason behind her title, and it's defining who she's becoming. However I would like a DM to look at where I'm taking her and agree that it makes sense

You can name yourself in the game anything you want.
We have rules on what your PC's real name must be of course.
You can call yourself potatoe monster rancher for all anyone cares as a title, you just have to expect to get 0 DM's reponding to your titile since its self granted.
