  • It's the other, other addiction. ;)

So, when I'm not playing NWN2 or forum trolling, my biggest computer vice is my Steam games. The biggest one for the past few months has been Team Fortress 2. Although, I've been playing Valve's games (mostly online) since he late 90's when they debuted. I've always wondered if other people on these forums played games like TF2 (especially TF2).

If anyone who reads this wants to throw me a friend invite, so that we can play together some time, my steam ID is DEATHFLASH (not to be confused with my sundren wiki tag, or my NWN2, which are both also DEATHFLASH, oh wait...)

So speak up people, if you play any, tell me what they are.

I played the original Counter Strike, Team Fortress Classic, and Half-Life games but I never got into this orange-box stuff.

And with all the time I spent with veins popping out of my head as I screamed curses at my computer screen, all because some 11 year old kid was using a wall-hack, I doubt I'll ever go back.

Not to hijack your thread and turn it into a "Games you play" thread but I prefer to play the classic Medal of Honor if i want a shooting game. Either that or Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

Also, if my Mass Effect wasn't so bugged it would be an awesome game.

Lol, I try not to let it get to me, ever. If I'm not having fun with it, it's not worth playing although I am pretty good. If I wasn't such a fickle gamer (I float back and forth a lot between my time dedication to my different games), so instead I settle for playing on clan server where a lot of clan people play. Valve's gotten pretty good at keeping the hackers out of the secure valve servers, I have only seen maybe 3 since Christmas, and I only play on the secure servers. Although, I tend to just laugh at the hackers, toss them an insult or two, and move to a new servers. Not to mention, if you play on clan run servers, there is usually a moderator lurking around who bans them and then reports their ip to valve who can ban their account from playing on any secure servers in the future. They may ban them from all servers, not sure, I've never been VAC banned because I don't need hacks to be leet, lol, but I know for sure it's at least all secure severs. You should try it now

Used to play CS a few years back, but it just got so repetitive... That and my hax weren't l33t enough (the "Can't shoot straight and runs into bullets" hack let me down on more than one occasion).

CS:S - Used to be pro, then lost all my perfect head shots. Now play on surf and zombie maps from time to time.

I'm going to hijack the thread breifly.

I HATE MMO first person shooters, and I will tell you why.

When I play through the single player story line, I enjoy the game. As soon as I attempt to play one online, all the fun drains out of my body and seeps onto the floor.

When someone asks me to play any FPS online whith them, I usually load the game and go watch TV. If you want to play co-op storyline (because its more of a challenge than single player) thats fine. But, if you want to shoot me; I will lay my controler down and you can kill me as many times as you wish.

            Tangent:
I use to play Battelfield 2142. That game was enjoyable. I was never a sniper due to EVERYONE wanting to be a sniper. There are more jobs that need to be done.

            [rant]
Anyway, I liked the engineer: he could fix vehicles and blow them up... very cool.
One day I decided I wanted to be the comannder (just for some practice). I do not and will never understand how I am to become a good commander if you will not LET ME TRY TO LEARN!!!!1!!!!one.
            [/rant]

It is the same in all the other games. I don't think I will ever understand the appeal of killing people for no gain. There is no story, you get kills.... thats not very impressive.

Maybe someone can explain to me the finer points of FPS?

I've been having something of a retro games attack recently - been playing my way through X-com and X-com Terror From the Deep.

Man, I'd forgotten how tough tftd was!

Made this as a mark of respect to it, meant to do the same for the rest of the tftd monsters but havn't got started on it yet

                  Eira Skald - Icy bitch.
Karsten Mannerheim - Idealist and murderer.
Vincent Hopkins - Witch Hunter and man of faith.
Aedan Gilter - Dreamer of broken dreams.
Henry L. Jones - Oh god, I can see forever.

I actually have the opposite reaction than you, I pretty much play all of my games on the PC due to this reaction as well (with the exception of portable games on my DS and PSP), the reaction is that I have trouble playing games without human interaction. I'm not sure if it was years of playing EQ, WoW, and other online games where you have constant interaction with people (if you want to, I suppose you can avoid a lot of it) but if I don't have the human interaction element I tend to get bored really fast. It's the main reason I have trouble playing console games without friends, if I've got four people there it's awesome but any other time it'll just sit there not being used.

Back to the topic brought up by the quote above, I'm not quite sure where your coming from, do you mean that against the computer opponents you do well and it's fun, and when you go online you tend to die quickly and sit there watching the rest of the round, so it's not fun?

I guess with FPS it's more enjoyable if you're good (like I mentioned I've been playing Valves for over 10 years now) but there are fun options. For instance, I spend most of my time playing TF2, unlike games like counter-strike where once you die you're out until the end of the round, in TF2 you wait like 20 seconds and respawn, they also have a lot of servers that have instant respawn so you're never out of the action even if you suck. I have to say I spend half of my time playing TF2 just laughing in my chair because I just blew up 8 guys, or I killed a heavy with a baseball bat or something. If I had to recommend any one FPS it would be TF2, followed by BF2 which would be tied for second place by all of Valve's other titles.

I have Oblivion but for some reason I never really enjoyed it that much. I don't play it anymore.

Medieval 2 is one of those games I play in spurts: I'll get sick of it for awhile and then for about a month straight it'll be the only game I play.

Civ4 is sweet too but once I learned the strategy for getting cultural victory I kinda' messed everything up. Now If I'm playing a game and someone else gets a wonder before me or something else goes wrong, I quit and start all over.
