Suggestions on how to RP this....

All right to my great chagrin, and deep annoyance, I was forced to leave the event on yesterday night so I could go to work. My character, Jamyse, was at last moment, in a running battle in Viridale forests agaist Nether elementals, and several other PC's. So, how do you RP going poof in the middle of a battle? My thought was to assume that Jamyse was wounded bad enough to be evacuated from the battle, so he wouldn't know after the moment he poofed. Is there another way to RP it that someone could suggest? I'd like a DM to give an opinion as well please, because I would like a believable RPable reason for Jamsyse abandoning a fight because his player had to leave.

You know your character better than anyone else - I suggest finding a good personal reason for leaving if you can. I would pull the 'was wounded in combat, staggered off to some hidden part of the woods and fell unconscious, waking the next day', myself.. But that's only me.

If nothing else we all simply understand what it is like to have IRL reasons conflict with IG reasons. Inconsistencies with RP caused by IRL issues can, and will be neglected because we aren't jerks. Except for Mach - He's a pretty big jerk sometimes.

I think that most people worry to much about this. If you have to leave then you have to leave. Period. Things like "was wounded" don't help much to hide an obvious fact (especially as people get wounded and killed all the time without retreating) if you ask me. RL should usually come first and there is no to feel bad because of this.

This is a fun subject for me, especially this week. I am on call, which means any water or sewer problem in the City, I have to pretty much leave and go fix.

Right now I am simply trying to avoid long events. I'll take this time to work on some levels and play my alternate character. If someting does come up during an event, as they said, just RP you stayed with them or were wounded and had to back off. The DM's are pretty understanding.

TBH, I never try to force a square peg into a round hole. If you can't come up with a decent IC excuse, just don't. OOC reasons are perfectly acceptable to leave. We're all people and understand, and no one would hastle you.
