  • nv4_disp.dll BSOD

Hey I have been seaching for help with this and have not found anything that has helped. While playing NWN I got the blue screen of death and it was tied to nv4_disp.dll. I have uninstalled the drivers several times. Used Driver Cleaner on it to get all the old copies off. So I am at a loss what to do. I can reset to the default VGA drivers and get the pc to boot up but everything is so slow to refresh. I am looking for any suggestions on this. Two things I have noticed during the boot up process is all the normal driver text that is displayed is scrambled. Also there are columns off 0's as the system boots up. Once it gets to the Windows screens everything is fairly normal. So does it sound like the video card is going bad? If so I am open to suggestions on a new card. Should I keep with Nvidia or go ATI?

My pc is the basic Dell XPS 410
    GeForce 7300 LE
    1 gig ram
    1.8ghz duo core

If this post is in the wrong location I am sorry. Thanks!

If you don't have the latest NVIDIA drivers, grab them. Don't install an old version that came on the CD with the card.

I have an NVIDIA 8800GTS and it's great.

Yea i tried them. it crashes with blue screen too. however it doesn't list the nv4_disp.dll as the cause. I concerned about if I install a new Nvidia card it will happen too. what brand 8800GTS do you have?

      and thanks for the reply!

If you're overclocking, take it off. Otherwise your card is probably overheating, check your temps.

I'm going to agree with Saulus for the most part... Seems like your video card is acting screwy and causing the problems, however, it could be other problems as well... Especially if you're getting various causes for the other BSODs.

Does it only occur when playing NWN? Have you tried playing other games? Has it crashed while simply browsing or playing other games?

no not overclocking. all is standard build from Dell. I didn't get the Nv4_disp error until installing NWN2 and Mask. I play COD4 and have played WOW with no problems. This just leaves me scratching my head.

You mentioned checking temps how do you do that on a video card?
