  • Help me find the PC performance to run NWN2

My computer long ago haulted. Now I want to play NWN2 again, the problem is that I now need a new computer, a computer which can run NWN2 smoothly on medium or hopefully high settings. My old computer did not run NWN2 very well at all, actually it was constantly on low in all settings at a resolution of 1024x768.

Any of you have a computer that runs NWN2 fast and with eyecandy settings enabled

And if so, what GFX and CPU do you use?

Ran me about $380 back in December, and it runs NWN2 and all my games really well. It also has a lot of room for upgrades still. I was on a budget though, not sure what your situation is or how much you want to spend.

Well, my requirements are simple - enough power to run it perfectly, preferably based on a budget below $1500...

Anything you buy now -absolutely any CPU- with discrete GFX -or even some embedded like the AMD 780G- will do the job fine. RAM is really cheap/one GB is more than enough.

I am running it on a 7 years old budget system (AXP2500+) with a 4 years old mainstream GPU (GF6600GT 128MB). 1600x1200 with most of the details on medium and some on high. Sundren is really smooth 90% of the time (cant say the same for the OC though).

For 1500 you can get a sweet machine for sure, but really 500 is all you need for a good system. Don't forget about the OS. You can play NWN on Linux you know.

Oh, I would really like to play NWN2 on linux, but I found the OS (I used Ubuntu) pretty hard to figure out.

I'm actually still figuring out how to run it under WINE, but I know it works. You'll know that I got it sorted when you see me online again.

My hard drive crashed and I don't have a copy of XP. Bought a 250 GIG drive for 65 bucks and got up and running with Ubuntu real fast.

Invest in a good video card, the 8800GT 512 is a great card and can be easily found for under $200.00 US

Not unless you are using a 24-30'' screen.

I have an AMD X2 3800 and till last week i had a 7600GT. That was not really enough to run NWN2 on Sundren. Now i got a 9600GT for 140€ and i'm quite happy with it. Things run about 2-3 times faster now so that everything runs smooth at 1280x1024. I was also thinking about the 8800GT which should be about 10-15% faster than the 9600 but when i considered that my CPU was about 2.5 years old i stayed with the 9600. I got one with passive cooling and i am quite happy with it.

So i would say depending on the rest of your system either a 8800GT or 9600GT unless you have lots of money to spend.

8800gt it is then, and then I will buy a CPu that take full advantage of it. Many thanks to all of you...

I can not wait to play NWN2, especially on Sundren

You will have one major problem running NWN2 in Linux; Wine is the program that allows you to run windows programs, but due to copyrights the Wine program can not deal with the newer Securom (Which is present in NWN2) so you will need to get a nocd crack. I haven't been able to find a crack for 1.12 and 1.13 will be coming out soon and you won't be able to play online until the crack for that one emerges. However the Codeweavers project (a paid version of Wine) has signed a contract with Securom and are able to do cd checks on the latest Securom games.

I do wholeheartedly support new people gettint Linux, but I would reccomend getting two hard drives and then dual-booting. You could also learn about virtual machines as they've advanced far enough to allow one to play video games inside of them.
