  • A little burnt out.

    1) So lately I've noticed a rash of bug reports not in the Bug Report area.

    2) So lately I've noticed a rash of bug reports containing spoilers and not marked as private.

    3) So lately I've noticed a rash of repeat bug reports of things already handled within the last month and are already in the next update.

    4) So lately I've noticed a rash of suggestions that have already been suggested in the past.

    5) So lately I've noticed I'm tired of repeating myself.

Now a lot of people on the server and forum know that I answer 90% of my PMs on the forum and 90% of the tells sent to me on the server when I'm logged on wether it be as a player or DEV.

Let me tell you a little about my job here.
I make stuff as directed by Saulus.
I make stuff and give it to Saulus to see if he likes it.
    I fix occasional bugs.
    I make quests.
    I handle NPC conversations.
I support the DM staff on their requests.

No where in my job description does it say I have to answer player tells or PM's or Emails. Technicly thats to be handled by the DM staff.

From this point on.. if I notice one of my top 5 observations happening, that person is going on my "ignore PM's and Emails" on the forum and my private email account and I will add their name to the sticky notes on my monitor of people to ignore OOC tells from on the server. This may seem a rather stupid punishment, but I have a feeling that it will effect you someday in someway.

This will not effect my IC performance though.. because I won't ruin RPing for anyone based on my personal feelings, if I did, I couldn't lead by example, ya know?

Unless your a DM or Admin, please don't think your exempt on this. There are very few non DMs on this server that trully have my ear, and they know who they are.

I'm hoping this is more effective then some DM giving you infractions for the top 4.

I really do like this server and the population, but I am wasting way too much time with the above issues.

Thank you for listening and respecting this.
    Sean

This is precisely why I try not to pester the DM's. As computer-illiterate as I am (The toolset is like a rubix cube with 4 extra dimensions to me), I can only imagine how much of a pain-in-the-ass their job is.

    No, I am not brown-nosing.

    ....well... maybe just a little.

Sean, I didn't understand points one through four. Could you repeat them?

...I'm joking. Don't eat my face.

I'm satisfied waiting for my extreme Smite Evil that I'll get in 2020.

However I understand where you're coming from. This is one of those 'give them an inch they go a mile' type of deals. I appreciate your leniency to most of us and am sorry that it has become something that makes you bang your head against the wall - Repeating the same responses/tasks/actions for the same problem.

Your job is very well appreciated by all of Sundren - Even if some of us ask a little too much from you.

With respect, no one should be asking Sean to do anything except for the staff. His role, and those who work for him, is to build the world as directed by Saulus and facilitate DMs. Every moment he spends somewhere else is time that could have been spent enhancing the world.

Second of all, yes, you may have bug reports or have legitimate questions, but please don't send them to Sean while he's logged in as his player unless you've discovered a major exploit. Strangely, he still logs in to play and have fun, and it can't be very fun when you're trying to unwind and roleplay when a thousand tells keep destroying the immersion. We have a board and message system, with proper channels for bug reports, for a reason.

The DM staff is here to assist the players. We encourage your questions, inquiries, and personal backgrounds. We are not here for requests for custom items. When in doubt, send your PM to me. Please be patient when waiting for a response.

I actually think I'm guilty of this one, I submitted what I thought was a bug, that was marked as private, now that I look at it. I know when I submitted it I didn't know how, still don't know how, or that I was supposed to mark it as private. For that, I apologize.

In reference to the tells and stuff, I really hope they aren't sending you tells about this stuff without using the DM channel. I know one thing I've constantly told new people who join the server, is not to send DM's unsolicited tells and to always use the DM channel until they respond to you personally. *sighs* Maybe I need to step it up a notch.

I really hope these things don't get to you though, I can't stand seeing our generous DM's getting stressed out so much by players and bugs and this and that. I wish I could do more to help you out, but most of the time I speak up and try to take the reins, by helping or correcting someone or saying this doesn't belong here, I feel like I might be over stepping my boundaries as a player, and I can't speak for anyone besides myself so hopefully I haven't so far.

              Hey Sean,

I'm with you on this one man. I burned out a little from the constant tells for silly requests, although I loved to interact with players on the server. The problem is I got to know too many people behind the character and obviously that brings along personal problems, unsolicited requests for favors and a whole slew of other things. Keep in the fight buddy, the server will get where it needs to be!

My suspicions is that Sean works on scripting/bugfixing/making new classes, feats about 20 hours a day. He sleeps 2 hours, is with his female/childs half an hour, is on toilet 15 mins. That leave him about 1 hour and 45 minutes to play. So I hope he can use that time to play his char and not answering 100 tells.

Hmm ... What Sean said obviously made sense ... except for one thing:

Dude - why do you let the players send you tells requesting DMs attention when you are online as a player? Unless it is a desparate emergency and noone else could help I don't think it should be happening ... like somebody stuck in a wall because of a bug maybe etc.
Then I don't think there should be a reason to send a tell in game to a DEV!!!

                  Do I make any sense?

One more thing .... I guess it would help people that DM, DEV or do whatever else to have a separate player and staff accounts so nobody bothers them when they are online as players.

                    What do you think?
