Right, but what does the G on the shirt stand for? His real name isn't Go. Remember that the Speed Racer cartoon was actually written by Americans, though it was animated in Japan.

I don't know much about speed racer, but Peridan's example checks out, atleast on the linguistic side because I am a student of the Japanese language and there are many parts of their language that do that. One word in a certain context put in another context means something completely different, and they seem to like homophones. Just my two cents, I'm wondering what nickbeats answer is though.

Arg, for the love of Pete...

"The characters and storylines originated in Japan..."

"...the central character in the anime and manga was a young race car driver named Gō Mifune (Mifune Gō)..."

        Happy?

You are totally right about the Japanese origin, but the Americans call him Greg, and that is what the G on his shirt is. He got the nickname Speed when he was a little kid running around the track.

It's gotta be said that Marvel have a crap history with films, other than the first couple of X-Men ones that is... DC have some far superior things under their belt; First 2 batman films, Sin City, and V for Vendetta. Anyone seeing a Frank Miller theme here?

[EDIT] There was also the unforgivable mockery of Hellblazer that was 'Constantine' with Keanu Reeves... that shit cancels out any DC advantage... I cried for all the wrong reasons

I agree Mach, I was kinda pissed at how they portrayed John Constantine. I was like "wtf! He's supposed to be blonde!"
