Met with hostility

A short while ago I attempted to start a little "rp session" with another individual. We were both wailing on goblins and I killed one that was part of a group this other individual was fighting. I attempted to greet them only to have my ic greeting ignored and then I receive a rather rude tell insulting me and telling me to back off.

Sundren seems pretty well advertised to be an rp server, so I find it unlikely that this individual was ignorant regarding such. I am fairly new to rping on Forgotten Realms servers so I do not know how common this is or how best to react to such situations.

Any advice anyone?

Yeah, take screen shots and send them to us in the help channel. The moment they sent you the tell, you should have documented it and the chat immediately before and after it (so we can see the whole picture) and posted it for us.
We don't care for people that want to act like that OOC and are more then happy to send them packing.
Well unless it was Saulus, him you just have to put up with. I think he has Tourette's.

Plus just about everyone I meet are cool about roleplay and this is probably the rare exception.

I have characters that will get upset if people join thier fights, although they will say so in character. Like my little halfling ranger, she has self-esteem issues and doesn't like it when she thinks people are "helping" her because she is small and weaker. Unless you are a Mage, then she will just run away and hide.

But there is absolutely no reason to be ooc rude about it.

Like you said, there is no reason to be OOC Rude.
BUT, If we think about It, there is no reason to "help" another character without his/her permission.

Two days ago I was killing goblins, alone, and then a character (with Challenge Rate: OVERWHELMING) sneaking, does a Sneak Attack on a goblin what I was fighting (The Goblin was NEAR DEATH) and later he asked: "You need help?".
OOC I was very angry because that was odd, Im doing my best effort on a fight and then a dumbass come and receives the XP and Gold without effort.
IC I was very angry too, because the other character sneaks up and joins uninvited to his fight.

XP and levels are purely metagaming notions.
There are few excuses for anyone to get angry if someone helps him in a fight.
The exceptions are those rare cases when pride is an issue, for example a duel, or revenge. The last case I can think of is that of a totally evil and bloodthirsty character how really enjoys the killing.

Sorry Skro, but the limited number of areas combined with people wish to RP with others and not be solo on the server force the issue.
IC your allowed to act however you want, but OOC you have to realize that even if they were challenge rating impossible, to you.. or effortless to you, either way, he sees you fighting a few goblins.. a normal person would help in someway.

Relax guys, OOC theres an unlimited number of creatures to farm, if your going to get upset OOC over someone "stealing your kill", It would suggest to me that you might be looking for OOC drama where there was none. And no DM will back you up.

And you do not need another persons permission to jump into a fight with hostiles. The nature of this game is to allow every single player to make their own choices vs NPCs and hostiles.

On Sundren, no one has the right OOC to prevent another player from joining a fight. No one has the right, OOC, to claim a spawn as theirs.

Now, onto another issue. You do realize that if the person that you were involved with, reads this post, they could report it, for you calling them a dumbass in public domain? How does name caliing help the situation? I'm looking at this from an outside point of view, and all I can see is name calling escalating the problem instead of solving it.

Now you may not have intended it, but name calling on SUNDREN'S public forum is considered flaming.

Now since this is considered flaming I'm going to lock this thread. I'm also not going to pursue this subject in any other manner unless one of the people involved decide to handle this privately, AS IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE.

Please do not post your problems with specific players on the public domain. Even if you only allude to who they are, if they know your talking about them, thats enough for it to become a private issue.
