I'm going to make something very clear for why people get banned for rude or disrespectful comments from time to time.

I do this for free (you've heard that right -- but you realize time is not free). And so do many other hardworking people who are professionals from all different walks of life with families, bills to pay, and other things that are more important than a game. Before I started working on Sundren I had to deal with the shitty attitudes, and disrespectfulness I see so commonly on the internet and in many communities.

I won't even comment on how many dirtbags I've met in the NWN community. Take for example the Obsidian model contest which our own Feydakin entered -- well it got cancelled. Why? Someone cried plagarism when there was none. I've had people send me death threats because another admin banned them on Sundren after they repeatedly broke the rules (griefing, killing players, etc).

On a consistent basis I deal with this crap. And Obsidian and BioWare may not have the luxury of banning and getting rid of people with shitty attitudes, but I do. The simple reason? This isn't a company. This is a volunteer hobby group. And for the most part I enjoy what I do and the people I work with. I continue to do this because our users have paid for two servers and helped me keep up with the costs of maintaining everything. To those people I am very grateful. They enjoy what we do and we enjoy doing it.

There are some great people out there in this community along with the bad apples. But if doing this ever becomes too stressful for me, am I going to want to work on it? No. Is anyone else? No. So I have a very, very low tolerance for asswipes coming on MY WEBSITE telling ME how to do things and insulting me and my staff for doing something for free. And I'm honestly at the point now where if you don't like it, yes you can kiss my ass... Because there are enough good people who come here and who are respectful and helpful to other players, and in turn we see that... and they are duely rewarded and valued as a community member.

This is partially to vent because I am irritated at the downright audacity some people have when they come here. I absolutely refuse to put up with any of it.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Hell yeah. Don't put up with that crap and you won't burnout and get resentful.

Thanks again for all your work Saul.

I left the NWN1 server I co-hosted with my friend for those very same reasons Saulus. I've told you that before, and I can feel your frustration. I hope you don't let the howling mob of toddlers get to you, because there will always be people like me that appreciate those who work on a game for me to enjoy. It's why I enjoy to donate my money to Sundren, I almost feel guilty if I don't. Seriously you and the crew desrve it. Bravo.

More power to you, I figure, most people have a limited amount of time to play, and I know the last thing I want to deal with in my down time away from real life activities is a bunch of drama and people whining at me. When it's something you do for enjoyment you shouldn't be having to deal with that. I know in my old WoW guild (I was with them for a long time) they only allowed players who could prove they were mature and everyone had a trial period and was either welcomed or removed after that period based on the guild's views of the player. It helped create a no-drama atmosphere and it was one of the best online experiences I've ever had because everyone was there to have fun and anything else was kept out.

To all the DM's you do great work here and I appreciate it, hopefully I haven't caused any grief for you myself . I know I couldn't dedicate nearly as much time as some of you have, not just the development side either, the great story lines the DM's have come up with and the time they spend making things in game enjoyable. Hopefully it's at least as fun for you guys as it has been for me, if not funner.

Agreed, you don't have to put up with that sort of crap, you're doing it for free, and being plain rude about something that is done for free is just wrong.

I really like your post, Saulus, because you used the word "audacity".

It really just puts the salt on my cake.

I think this post was long overdue, hopefully it will warn off people trying to ruin it for the rest of us.

I imagine I'll get banned for this, but what you are saying is, you don't want feedback, you don't want to share your plans with the community, and if anyone disagrees with you, you will boot them. This is not good in the long term for any server which is by its nature a social construct which involves give and take from players AND the DMs. Thats my opinion.

Shad. I'm not sure you read the other thread where the offensive statements were made. The nature of those statements were similar to what you might expect from a popular Polymorph option; The Troll!

Personally I think too much attention has be given to the matter and the summary execution was appropriate and succinct.

Actually, what Saulus is saying is "If you can't say something nice (or in this case, "constructive"), don't say nothing at all"

There are two types of feedback, one that's clearly geared towards making things better and one that simply bashes what the poster doesn't like, without suggestions on how to improve it.

I doubt Saulus was asking everybody to kiss up.

*shrug* and since we're not paying customers but a community made up of volunteers and of people who benefit from those volunteers' work, we truly have no call dissing whatever we're given. We play by their rules or we play elsewhere.

Chani Kalera- Intimidation is the new diplomacy. *looms*
Eleanor "Bloody Elle" Lark - Why is the rum always gone?
