A magic use could use a staff and dagger. A cleric could use bludgeoning weapons. A thief could use a dagger, short sword, club, sap, and spears.

Probably missed some, BG2 only gives me so much 2nd edition lore

Mages could use staffs and slings as well as daggers and or club (simple weapons). Clerics could use any blunt weapons, and I believe thiefs were limited to daggers, slings crossbows, shortswords etc.
