  • Starcraft 2?

Rustediron mentioned Starcraft in a recent post and it reminded me that I wanted to start a thread.

    http://www.starcraft2.com/

How many of you are just itching to get your hands on Starcraft 2?

I know I am, especially since I've done closed/open beta testing for blizzard in the past (as well as many other companies) so I should have a good shot at the beta test, but I haven't heard anything. I see so many game play videos that I have to think the beta is coming soon, but they haven't even announced a beta date. So, what do you all think?

I would be, but Knowing Blizzard, it'll be a few eternities before it's released, so I just made a note of it and moved on

My guess is that it will be a fall release, maybe something side by side with the next WoW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

Blizzard products never did much for me, I don't particularly like Warcraft, Starcraft, or Diablo. Just a bunch of button mashers to me.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I was addicted to Warcraft III for all of a day and a half. I agree with Saulus, for the most part.

Unfortunately, I fair rather poorly at RTS's.

The cake sure is a lie in this case.

I was never a great fan of the Blizzard craze, but the WoW addicts have at least given us someone to laugh at.

The story behind warcraft is fantastic though. Although I do think WoW has the potential to destroy anything good about it.

That said I heard that Starcraft's storyline was just as good.

Starcraft was one of my favorite games of all time, back in like 98'-01', the only reason I ever stopped playing was because a buddy of mine got me into EQ1, and I was playing CS and HL on top of that, and it just got lost in the mesh for a few years. I played EQ1 for like 3 years, then beta tested for about a year and a half, played CoH for about a year, then I caught the WoW bug. I quit WoW about 6 months ago and haven't really looked back. Honestly the people who are REALLY addicted to WoW must have no self control, because when I was like 13 I was addicted to EQ, all I did was play EQ and go to school, and WoW is nothing compared to what EQ was, that game was Evercrack for a reason. Now I could care less about any of them, although it would be fun to be able to log on every now and then, I quit for a reason, and the amount I would actually use it isn't even worth keeping it updated, let alone paying the monthly fee.

Moral of the story : If Starcraft 2 stays true to the way Starcraft 1 was, I think it will become the WoW of the RTS genre and all the RTS companies are just gonna shit themselves and give up. Eventually blizzard will have a game in just about every genre and nobody will want to compete against them. I don't have a huge problem with it because I tend to like blizzard's games, I think they do a great job with them and surpass the initial expectations of their target audience, they do a good job at making their games balanced, and I've always gotten good support from them. Although some people may say they are becoming a bit monopolistic, like microsoft is/was but if you've got a genuinely good program and you're sucking up all of the player base for a genre... *shrug*.

Even though I do not agree with you on your decision to vote for the mystic theurge lol, I DO agree with you here. Blizzard has created the most amazing in-depth universes primming with rich RP. The problem however is, like in WoW, the gamers who flocked to the game care NOTHING for Role Play. These gamers are the kind who feel they have to juice up their character to extreme levels to beat down their friends. They utterly ruin the game's potential to provide a solid RP and prevent everyone from realizing how good the game actually is. Imagine if everyone who played on WoW were as devoted to RP as the people who play "this" server. But yes, in answer to your question, can't wait for Starcraft II.
