Crysis Demo released

In case you have been living under a rock or just don't like to follow FPS titles; Crysis is a very hyped FPS game by the same people who made FarCry, I think.

Anyway, the demo is available here:

However this game isn't for "weak" machines, and by that I mean the minimum requirements are like so:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz (3.2 GHz for Vista), Intel Core 2.0 GHz (2.2 GHz for Vista), AMD Athlon 2800+ (3200+ for Vista) or better
RAM: 1GB (1.5GB on Windows Vista)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or better
VRAM: 256MB of Graphics Memory
Storage: 12GB
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible

Let me just say that I meet the recommended and exceed it just a tad, and this game still makes my computer stutter on "medium and low" settings. However, even on the lowest settings this game looks badass.

Oooo! I don't usually like FPS much, but I loved the first Far Cry game so I'll check this out for sure... once I get back to Aussie and my desktop

I've been in the MP beta of this and I have the demo, the game is fun but the performance isn't what it was promised it would be. This is one of those games that uses such highend hardware so it's futureproof enough that it would become outdated in the next 4 - 5 years too quickly.

Thank EA for that one Saulus, so far though I haven't had too much performance problems with the demo, I can run most things on medium/high without shadows but if I turn on shadows then I need to cut down in other places. That's just how it is though, so far it really seems like they have done a good job optimizing things but if you say they promised more than it's probably EA rushing them to get the game out and money in their pockets.

Does the demo finally include DX10 ?

Yeah can't even play the demo in DX10. I won't be buying this game, it's still nowhere near being ready to play. It's buggy, crashes, and the performance is garbage. Unless you have dual 8800 Ultras and a Core 2 Quad Extreme with 8GB of memory on Vista 64 I wouldn't bother with Crysis.

The industry has jammed down our throats how great DX10 is despite the fact that we don't even have the hardware to run it at an acceptable framerate yet. I remember them saying all these performance benefits that would even out with the graphical load added, and this has turned out to be a bunch of bullshit as people are getting 1/4 of the frames over DX9 for rendering the same scene.

But what about the other aspects of the game like the story, the gameplay?

I haven't had any problems with the demo on my machine, but I also run Windows XP and DX9 so maybe that's why? I don't need to be running everythig on maximum graphics to enjoy what this game has to offer either though, even with a lot of the settings on medium/high with my 30-60fps range I've been really enjoying the demo. I can either sneak around and cloak, or go gung ho, or avoid the combat situations altogether. The gameplay itself is a lot of fun for me, even if I can't run it at max graphics.

I played it, I found it less impressive than what I imagined from the trailers. After playing the Demo, I certainly have other titles being placed above Crysis.
