  • Computer Malfunction

Hi there.. got a small problem with my computer, and thought that you guys maybe knew how to solve it.
My internet explorer looks like this:

sometimes it's less, sometime more.. do anyone of you know what this is all about? I haven't done anything stupid with the computer, sicne it was all clean before this occured..

Along with that, no internet game that uses schockwave works, and almost all pictures in windows and iexplorer gets this flurry thing.. and my antivirus have begun to act strangely too...

    would be glad for help.

    Thanks

Not something I've seen before, since I almost exclusively use Firefox, but I'll post a couple programs that may help to clear it up (if it's a virus); in the meantime, I'll do a bit of searching and see if I can find the cause.

    System Restore
This does not work with all viruses or issues, but assuming you are using Windows (and didn't know about System Restore already), go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. Your computer backs itself up every so often, so if you can remember a time prior to having the problem (a small calendar with some bolded and selectable dates will appear in the window) you can restore your computer to that time.
This will not affect files, such as word documents or save games, but it will remove all files from any program or game that was installed past the date selected.

    Spybot
The second thing you can try is running Spybot, which can be downloaded above. It cleans all the basic issues and 'bad' cookies on your computer, and tends to catch most spyware, if that's what this is. It's rather straight forward, and easy to use.

    Super Anti Spyware
If Spybot doesn't catch it, this may do so. It tends to be more complete sometimes, but requires a bit more effort to get working, so I prefer to try Spybot first. However, if Spybot doesn't work, follow these instructions:
    • Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
    • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
    • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
    • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
    • Click the Scanning Control tab.
    • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
      • Close browsers before scanning.
      • Scan for tracking cookies.
      • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
    • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
    • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
    • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
    • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
    • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
    • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
    • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
    • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
    • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
    • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
      • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
      • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
      • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
      • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.
    • Click Close to exit the program.

Do you have any ad or pop-up programs running? That's what happened to me.I didn't need to uninstall the programs or anything; what was causing the problem for me was some gif (?) images were being blocked. If you have any programs that I mentioned, try going into the options to see just what is being blocked.

          You could try hijackthis.
It will list every suspect process or register key on your computer.
It also detects programs that are not at the right place (for exemple, an iexplore.exe at the wrong place is most likely to be a trojan).
