  • A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

So, who has seen The Force Awakens? What's your opinion? The greatest movie, or a huge disappointment? Somewhere in between?

Let's talk about spacewizards for a bit.
    Characters
Verity Chimera - The Brimstone Bard - "Hey, wanna see a trick?"
Nora Windwood - Greenleaf Disciple - When a Druid Hugs a Tree, the Tree Hugs back! - Retired
Ronus Stonewall - Dwarven Pathfinder - Drunken Scout of Whurest

    It was good.

I wouldn't say mind-blowingly great or revolutionary, but it was overall a good movie, it had good flow and I liked all the characters. I liked how things developed, and the humor was great.

I didn't like the "and we have an even bigger death star!" plot, but it wasn't central to the plot so I give it a pass.

I'll almost certainly go to see its sequel.
    Aesa Volsung - Uthgardt Warrior

    Formerly
Gabrielle Atkinson - Mage Priest of Torm
    Anasath Zesiro - Mulhorandi Morninglord
    Kyoko - Tiefling Diviner
    Yashedeus - Cyrist Warlock
    Aramil - Nutter

      Agreed.

I understand that it's intended to be a reboot of sorts, but it didn't really need to be an almost a beat to beat remake of A New Hope.

I'm hoping they diverge from what was already done in the next two.

I will say that it is refreshing to see a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. There were plenty of humorous moments without it feeling like a comedy. The last movie that did that for me was Guardians of the Galaxy, a movie with a much weaker plot structure.

BB-8 was everything I was hoping for, and I would pay to see a movie with Poe and Finn just going on space adventures.

All in all, 8/10 for me. I'd watch it again in an instant.

I keep hearing how good Harrison Ford was and I think people are being a little fan-blind. Ford phoned it in again with a bunch of cranky-old-man acting and emotionless line delivery.

Felt kind of the same about Carrie Fisher, but to a much lesser extent.

              Everything else was great.

I think the older actors had the weakest acting in the movie. Although, I'm slightly impressed with Carrie Fisher. If her interviews are a sign, acting as a normal person is quite a feat for her.

I've already seen it twice, due to separate social groups, and it's a pretty decent movie IMHO. Plot was decent, abet rather simple, and easy to follow. Light-saber crosspiece made sense, although a few other rather confusing engineering derps were introduced. That being said: this is space-wizards, and half the plot is powered by handwavium and rule-of-cool.
                    8/10: would recommend.

I'll only link one spoiler, until everyone else has seen the movie to discuss.

They had a handful of gold star concepts and a couple bad concepts, imo. Poor writing and execution at certain points might irk some people who aren't blinded by their own Star Wars fandom. They needed more build up and subtlety to a few things such as revealing the new Darth baddie's background.

                        Mark Hamill looked bad ass.

Just saw this today, and I've got to say that I was quite pleased, and I'd agree with most people on here about it. I think that one thing that made it good in my books is that it's a simple story well told, which is exactly what it needed to be. Definitely gonna see the sequel.

I want Mark Hamill to do the joker voice when speaking as Luke.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
