Being in a state of alive and dead at the same time? In NWN2? Easy-peasy, I said. And so I did it.

Long story short, don't make a character with the same name as an existing one. For one, it won't work. The server smartly saves the oldest one and gets rid of the new one when you relog. For two, if you screw up like I did, you're likely to make a corpse that references a character that doesn't exist.

Also you get the hilarious message. "You're not truly dead! Corpse OK!"

Amusingly, that is one of the rare times we see that Dalian isn't actually a cat. . . .

this has also happened to me, however I didn't make a character with the same name as an old one. I don't remember the details since its been a long time. But I thought it was funny then just as I did when I saw your corpse and then found out you weren't really dead.

Making a character with the exact same name is a no no for many reasons, including things like this!

it is what i did with my rebuild when michael went from paladin to a bard fighter, it was what i was told to do, just change the name a little bit.

never deleted him, don't log on with him of course, he is just there in my select screen

Putting a space in the last name works, it just looks awkward because it's still visible in chat and the character list. Whispering "Dalian" becomes "Dalian ". I'm probably going to use Dalian's unofficial surname until I can get some DM help setting the new character up.
