  • Looking for GURPS P&P Players on Virtual Tabletop

Some of you are aware of this already, but I'm posting it all here for the public at large.

I'm co-hosting a pen & paper campaign with a friend of mine that will take place in GURPS engine.

After our GURPS Shadowrun came to a close after a year of playing, we were discussing possible new settings and decided we like the idea of a more gritty Cyberpunk setting.

So, here's the info, reply here or PM me if you are interested. Looking for about 4 people.

If you don't know GURPS, don't worry! We'll teach you.

    Game System: GURPS 4th Edition
Tech Level: TL8/9 (Starting wealth for the campaign is 6000 dollars)
Character Points: 150 point characters. 50 point disadvantages limit. 5 points quirks limit.
Play Time: Once a week starting around 4PM EST on a weekday (Which day is to be decided by who is interested).
Tabletop Sosftware: Modded Maptool (I made changes to it with my java skillz)

    Synopsis

In the future, the players will take on the roles of young rebels of society. The society itself is run down with the poor littering the metropolis of the world. You will be involved in gangs, terrorism, illicit activities, and more in this gritty future.

If you are interested in getting involved, like I said, hit me up.

*waves his arm frantically* Oh! Oh! Mr. Kotter!

I own the two core books for GURPS, but neither have I yet gotten around to reading them, nor have I ever played in that system. Despite that I would be interested in joining such a game.

As my present schedule stands any Weekday but Tuesday should be workable, but I am looking for a new job and that may change things somewhat.

Also, I do admit that I would be hurt and sulk for a while, but I understand if I get passed over for people with whom you have more history, and I am not one to hold a grudge if that is the case.

EDIT: Changed "Three core books" to "two core books"

Damnation. GURPS being the one system I have not played, go figure. Is the player handbook anywhere online, because I love me some damn gritty, illicit futuristic shit.

Fury, here is a glimpse of both the 2003 and 2004 editions, though I really have no idea what edition GBX was planing to use.

EDIT: Apparently the books I have are the 4th Edition, Second printing from January 2005.

EDIT 2: Those titles mention GURPS Lite, so they may be a parred down version of the system, I am unsure having neither read in full the core books I have, nor those PDFs.

EDIT 3: GBX says he will be using 4th edition. The lite version of which should be the second of the links I provided.... here it is again, just in case: 2004

            It'll be GURPS 4th edition.

There's two primary books that a player should peek into. GURPS Basic Characters is all about character creation, outlining how to go about it. GURPS Campaigns is all about how to play the game. Two extra books you might want are Ultra Tech for TL9 equipment and technologies. And High Tech which is TL5 to TL8 equipment and technologies (Modern world is tech level 8, tech level 9 is near future).

Everything will seem complex until you see it in action, it's fairly simple in practice. They try to go more realistic with gameplay in GURPS which is why a lot of the rules exist the way they do, but in the end it comes out much more detailed for character design and freedom for play.

A tool I HIGHLY recommend for GURPS is GCS (GURPS Character Sheet). Install the latest Java 7 if you havn't (Uninstall 6 if you still have that on your box) then get it here: http://gurpscharactersheet.com/wiki/

It's a beautiful tool for making characters.

I'll update campaign notes with more information.

I would have been down if you had said "Rolemaster." I love me some overabundance of rules!

So fury and Orli are down? Two more people and we can get our five man on.

Xalbrus is downloading the Character creation tool thing you linked now. I think he does have experience with GURPS. I am pretty sure the closest I've gotten is BESM. >.> We are both interested in playing.

But, don't assume we're a packaged deal on this one. While I'd love to be involved, my lack of familiarity with the system and minimal experience with cyberpunk settings (mostly by opportunity rather than design) mean if it's a choice between just him or neither, go ahead and take him. I can always watch over his shoulder anyway.

Alright, check it, if you guys have SKype, hit me up at GodBeastX on there so we can coordinate. The GM uses skype too so it'd be easiest.

For those of you out there who, like me, have not used Skype before but decide to give it a try for this game do not follow the first link a Google search for Skype provides.

                        Instead go to www.skype.com

Those first few links are super fun ways to download lots of junk that you do not need and will sludge up your computer...

Now, I have never used a Virtual Table Top either. Do I need to Download something for that? If so, where can I find it?

Maptool is what we use. This link will download it: http://www.retrosmack.com/filepimp/d...p?id=maptool97

That's my own file sharing site I wrote

Anyway, that's my custom build that allows mp3 sharing and stuff to be played. You'll need that.

Make sure you have latest Java 7 installed. Just about everything we use takes Java. There is a launcher bat file in that zip once you extract it to launch the tool if you got Java 7 on your box and that's it. When we play you just connect with that tool and we gooooooo!
