  • Baldurs Gate :D

So, every time I log into Sundren lately there's no one online and I've been getting a bit bored.

I was thinking of having a playthrough of BG1 Tutu (which means BG1 using the BG2 engine, classes etc for anyone in the dark).

Anyone interested in having a run through in multiplayer? I usually use a few mods like Sword Coast Strategems, BG Tweaks etc so you might have to download them too...not sure if both parties need to have identical mods :/

Hijacking the thread because I hate to see an apropos topic title go to waste.

Not to take any of you away from Sundren, but you can play Baldur's Gate on NWN2 now. Like, really.
But please, keep one thing in mind for me. What have you become when even nightmares fear you?

Baldurs Gate Enhanced Edition is the same as TuTu but with multiplayer that works. Available for £17 on steam.

I have Baldur's Gate 1 + Tales of the Sword Coast expansions. (It's NOT the enhanced edition)
I also have Baldur's Gate 2 + Throne of Bhaal + The Darkest Day.
I have done the Easy-Tutu installation as well, so I have the first Baldur's gate with the engine of the second.

And that's because you can bet I'm willing to do this run together if we find a reasonable time :P

I actually completed BG1 already, in single player as no one volunteered! And, I discovered something called Baldur's Gate Trilogy, which is even better than Tutu!

It lets you play all through the three games with complete continuity...your whole party keeps their XP, stat bonuses etc on starting BG2, and is apparently more mod-compatible than TuTu (so I've read, not sure if thats true).

I don't know if I could stomach playing through BG1 again...lol, I mainly just do it for the stat-raising books! >< I prefer the story of BG2 to be honest

I suggest to not use Baldur's Gate trilogy, unlike Tutu it does not make a separate installation, it requires the world map mod that also screws up certain maps in additional mods or expansions like The Darkest Day.

I also have Baldur's Gate 2 installed. If you want, we can start a game with that. But not with Trilogy, I have horrid memories of it sorry, I had to drop my The Darkest Day playthrough because it was screwed irrevocably by it. >.>

The only real perk of that compared to Tutu is that you can have Imoen retain her Thief-only class status. Not really worth the hassle imho.
At the end of BG1 you still lose all items and all gold you earned before starting BG2 and you can import very little (unless you do an export before the end of BG1 and start BG2 with an import of that character, but this should be doable with Tutu as well.)

Anyways, just for a test (if you don't have the time now it's ok, it's just for seeing if it works). Try running a test game with Baldur's Gate 2 and see if I can join it, maybe the mods are dependent on the host and not on who joins.

(Need to know the exact IP)

Heheh, I try and stay away from Megamods, or anything not made by a pro modder. I have spent a long time finding which mods are stable and don't overwrite/mess stuff up.

                BG2 Fixpack
                Baldur's Gate Trilogy
Solafein - Drow NPC party member
                Duelist class (Sword&Fist)
Arcane-Divine Spellpack - bring spells closer to PnP, nerfs PfMW and gets rid of "bouncy" lightning bolts
                PnP Celestials
Sword Coast Stratagems I - AI enhancing mod, essential!
Sword coast Stratagems II - AI enhancing mod, essential!
Rogue Rebalance - adds Chosen of Cyric encounter, super tough, really cool loot
aTweaks - PnP Fiends, Elementals and Fey, some class fixes
BG2 Tweaks - many ease of use and fixes (inc. weapon group proficiencies!) essential
Item Revisions (cast in heavy armor with increased casting time, heavy armor gives Dex penalties, etc)
iiSpellRefresh - spells refresh after 3 minutes per spell level (no more needing to rest once every 5 minutes...)

Re: Continuity, well Viconia can get Wis 21 in BGT That is quite the perk to be able to carry that over from BG1. Usually those Wisdom tomes all just get wasted (Wis has zero ingame effect for non-clerics in BG, as the save bonuses and spell immunites from high Wis were never implemented)

What I'm trying to say is that if you want to play BG2 only, then the trilogy is not needed, and for playing BG1 with BG2 engine you may as well stay with Tutu, but that's beside the point.
What's important is, let's start a game right now, I need my D&D fix! x'D
If you are using Trilogy, it still counts like Baldur's Gate 2 I imagine, perhaps I can join your game even if I don't have the files. Let's give it a shot, maybe it will make me download something or it will give me an error message.

P.S. You can just use the shadowkeeper program to edit the save file if you're so worried about Viconia getting 21 Wisdom in BG2 :P

                    What about Icewind Dale?

As an alternative to BG, Icewind Dale for NWN2 is available on the Vault - http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view....Detail&id=346

I was a beta tester for all but the final mod. It works well and is stable in both single- and multi-player. One person does have to set up their machine as a server.
                    Cheers,
                    Dave

I would love to host a game like that, but as the "If anyone out there is bored..." thread can testify, I just can't get to host games in nwn2 for the life of me.
Even when people manage to get inside my machine they just get kicked instantly, whereas I have no problem in joining games hosted by other people.

If you, or someone else who knows how to host games properly, wants to give it shot, I'm available, currently downloading the mod and seeing if I can install it properly. =)

Someone else hosted when we did the multi-player tests, so I can't help there. I would suggest putting all the IWD stuff in a separate, clean "Neverwinter Nights 2" directory and switching to it for play.
                        Cheers,
                        Dave
