  • Ultrabook installation - curious

I'm curious about something. I have a new ultrabook. With no DVD drive, installing NWN2 becomes a problem. I don't want to buy a new downloaded version, as I can play most times on my desktop.

The thought occurred, though. Would it be possible to copy the contents of the CDs onto a memory stick and install on the ultrabook that way?
    Cheers,
    Dave

You should be able to copy the files, but honestly you might want to consider how worthless your time is.

I bought NWN2 for 20 bucks I think before it was on sale (digital copy). No multiple installations, no updating, no expansion installs.

Going through a full NWN2 installation process literally takes hours.

      There are ways...

If you still have a DVD drive on some system then you could:

      1) Create iso's of all the discs using some tool that can get around the copy protection (if there is any) on the NWN2 disks. When I used windows last there was something called Daemon Tools which could do just that. Not sure what folks use these days though.

      2) On your new laptop you can install a program which lets you mount the isos you created as if they were actually DVDs on your system. Daemon Tools used to do this as well.

Oop...Saulus has much better advice. Hours of your life that you save by just getting the downloadable version is worth $20.

Thanks, everyone. The question was really more theoretical/technical than anything. I just wondered if it would be possible.

As Saulus and kuskotopia said, "Spend the the 20 bucks and be done with it." if I was really going to install. And Doubt's solution is more general.

The Daemon Tools route is what I was really interested in, from the "is this possible?" point-of-view.

The ultrabook is actually my second machine, for traveling and other away-from-home activities. My desktop is still my NWN2 machine. It will be nice to have the ultrabook in Spain and Portugal during March, for forum access and such.

i have used daemon tools on a tiny little net book a few years back to create a "virtual drive". i thin found the iso images of the disks i needed to play nwn 1 and used my own cd keys from my own game and had no problem playing nwn1 with it. im pretty sure it would work. bit time comsuming but it worked.
