  • Computer troubles, any suggestions?

    Hi everyone,

As you can guess by the title I'm having a lot of computer issues and I mean a lot. Basically, I am running into blues screens periodically and more frequently my computer's screens like to black out and produce this loud buzzing sounds. Nothing happens after I wait two minutes or so and I have to restart it, but then it may happen randomly before start up or five hours into using my computer. It is completely random and it's really starting to irritate me. I've already tried reinstalling my graphics card and running the windows disk check application and the Windows 7 Repair Program (Which I know is useless).

There are also times when my computers do black out, but they say that the display mode can't be utilized and they suggest changing the resolution back to the native resolution and 60Hz refresh rate, which I have done. Although, it doesn't seem to be working.

Also, sometimes the OS will not start up and after the Welcome screen, it'll turn black and I can see my mouse and move it around, but that's it. Then other times, basic windows programs will not work and I'll have to restart it.

It's really frustrating and I don't know how much longer my computer will last. Today, after a crash I had to restart it, but when I restart it the fans were working and nothing else. After unplugging the power source and waiting a minute or two, I got it to work.

So, any suggestions? I have no money to repair any of the parts or replace them. Any advice would be welcome or software I can use to get rid of the problem or see what is wrong. Oh, I did run a virus check and it was clean.

Here are some specs on my comp, I hope these are enough.

    Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X2 555 Processor

    4.00 GB RAM

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti

    1.5 TB Seagate Hardrive

    250 MB Seagate Hardrive

    Thank you,

Sounds like there could be multiple problems. If your screen is making buzzing noises and you randomly get display mode errors, swap out the monitor if possible to see if it still happens.

As for the bluescreens, is there an error message with it? Or a number code? If you don't see it you may have to go into Windows Event Viewer, check the System log, and search for the date/time of the error and post the code/message.

Are you keeping your graphics drivers up to date from nvidia.com as well?

Do what Saulus said. I had some similar problems and it was my display adapter but mostly because I hadn't ever cleaned out the computer and the due basically overheated it... It worked for a while after cleaning and the. Started up again. I occasionally get memory error BSODs too but again mostly when I've been a bit negligent ( I turned most of my fans to blow instead of suck too and that's helped keep a lot of the dog hair and dust out)

I am keeping everything updated as far as drivers and such go, the blue screens go too fast to see what the heck is going on. Usually it's fatal error or there was a problem with the memory, followed by either a Diskcheck or the computer automatically going to Windows Repair, which is rather annoying.

I had just restarted my computer, I pulled out everything and I cleaned everything I could. I am out of money, so I can't really buy some compressed air to really give it a good clean, but I got it plenty with some clothes and such. I also suspected that it might be overheating, so I have a fan running against it and I've opened up the sides to allow more breathing room for it. I also changed the monitors, I was running two at once and I changed it to run on my HDTV (Not sure how that'll work, but it'll be cool!) so maybe that'll bring less pressure on the system.

We will see what happens now that I wiped it clean. Thanks for all the help.
