  • Returning to Tyria?

So who's excited about this weekend?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToYDCfLsyvU

Having played every beta weekend thus far, I can say that the game delivers on a lot of what it promises. To be the voice of reason I will also say it's not all things for all people, despite what some over-zealous fans might be proclaiming on every gaming board from here to Zimbabwe.

What it is, however, is a fun and well-polished MMORPG that's definitely worth a look if you're still on the fence.

(And it's not just a straight WoW-clone with a different coat of paint for once, thank God. Look devs: I loved WoW to death when I was into it, but if I want to play WoW, I'd just play WoW!)

For those that are playing this weekend, or next week, the unofficial roleplaying servers are:

    Tarnished Coast - US
    Piken Square - EU
    Player of:
    Nadya Frost -
    Witchy Woman (http://www.sundren.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17774)
    Abigail Fryre - Short-Tempered (http://www.sundren.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16616)

I played GW when it first came out, grinded for awhile, got bored... Probably a better mmo than most but nothing amazing.

GW2 seems to leave a bad taste in my mouth just from the stupid hype around it, some people foam at the mouth like its gods gift to gaming. I have a feeling the reality will be quite different. Time will tell if their paradigm shift in mmo design was a success.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

GW's strength was in its competitive PvP. No MMO before or after has come close.

GW2 probably won't have the same depth, but its PvE looks to be hella fun. What I played in the beta backed that up.

I played the original GW and other than a lack of solo content (this was before all the expansions were out) I actually kinda liked it. The pvp was well done as well and the game seemed really designed to be based around genuine skill and very little luck.

I only ended up leaving due to the lack of an rp community, though I've heard one has developed over time.

I'm not jumping on the GW2 bandwagon right away, though not entirely by my own choice. However, I'm quite curious and when I have the option to buy it, I just might. I still might wait and see what a few trusted sources have to say first though... also... not going to bother if there's no rp community.

I agree the fans are getting a bit out of control. Luckily that should die down after this weekend, when people will actually be too busy playing it to talk about it quite so much.

I will say that GW1 and GW2 are completely different from one another aside from lore and design philosophy, so I wouldn't be too concerned about liking GW1 or not. *shrug* That's good or bad, depending on how much one loved GW1.

I did some of the PvP but I never found it that fun in MMOs, rather shoot people in the face in Battlefield 3 or use an attack helicopter to collapse an apartment building on them.
