I can only speak for the 470 here, but with a quick spot of CPU fan change (from a massive Akasa AK922 to a Corsair H50) and the change from GTX 8800 (BFG GTS 8800 640) to PoV GTX 470, my overall system temp has dropped dramatically!

My case is throwing out cool air as opposed to its normal hot vents, and that's after a few hours of shooting people in the face in BC2.

It's such a difference I may have to rethink my PCs placement - I have a disturbingly cold crotch thanks to this change. Or overclock the processor some more.

    Edit:
Major problem with the drivers though. The 197.whatever range still doesn't work with NWN2. Kinda puts a stop on my being able to get IG! *begins drafting letter to Nvidia*

Few screenies... more to follow... still tinkering with clocks. I have reached 850 mhz on the core with the voltage tuner, and on air! I have a case with two fans directed at funneling cool air on the GPU. The noise isn't even really different from my 295 anyway. Coupled with a 4 ghz Core i7 clock this thing eats through Metro 2033 like butter.

I am going to try NWN2 benching next. I just had a round of Bad Company 2 -- 32 AA (only on nvidia 400 cards). Also, most don't know about it but there is also something called accelerated jittered sampling, which replaces the blocky edges of shadows with background noise, making all shadows in games appear even more realistic.... and at no extra performance cost. Really cool stuff...

      For the curious this is Metro 2033, DX11 Very High settings, 16 AF, 4 AA ... That's at 1920 x 1200 resolution.

Viewport, not rendering. MR as far as I know uses the CPU. So, render times are not significantly improved (I still have an i920 though, so it's not exactly slow), but I can switch out the placeholders for the smoothed skins and the application won't even notice: it's like seeing the rendering in real time.

Looks like mental ray 3.8 will have CUDA support - good news for cards that support it, having the GPU help out with raytracing should provide a massive speed improvement (and iRay looks sexeh).

I suppose mental ray will only get better for nvidia users in the future, now that nvidia own them.

As for having softbodies/skins while working: Madness! Heresy!
It goes against all that's good and proper - Animators must learn to love their pared down and ugly rigs.

Still, the downside of not being able to get IG in NWN2 is a bit ouchy
Means I can't perm people for having the wrong face.

                NWN2 runs great for me.

He seems to have driver issues - again, why can't you downgrade your drivers? o_O

Can't roll back as the 470 is only supported by 197.x and both the versions of that I've tried have the same problem.

Saulus what driver version are you using? I'm on 197.43 currently.

Currently my game looks like this:

You know, now that I think about it, that looks like a GUI overlay: I was able to achieve the same effect using a custom GUI when I was trying to make a desaturation filter for the Time Stop spell.

Maybe something is screwed in your files?

Hmm.. Possibly - It only seems to affect certain areas - In Sundren, official campaign, etc.. so something environmental / effect related in those areas would make sense.

Don't really fancy reinstalling everything though - Like others I've had this crop up with other hardware and a driver rollback fixed it.

*shakes fist* Damn your inferior technology! And damn it's superior NWN2 playing capabilities!

I am using 197.41 the official recommended drivers. If I use the toolset I get the same thing as you Doubtful unless I disable the sky, GodBeastX had the same thing. It's your driver.
