  • Game recording software

Hey all, was just wondering if anyone can recommend a good open source game recorder? i was going to use FRAPS but 200 meg for 30 seconds of footage is a bit much.

yea, to record in game footage and make like a short movie, say 1 to 2 minutes long.

That's the reality of codec compression. Try doing a halfsize render then encoding it with something else to get the size down.

Ahhh right...the FRAPS program says that to get better quality footage it streams it directly to your hard drive then you can compress it down to about 18 meg or so.if i did a half size render would it affect the quality of the footage?

Reducing size loses detail rather than quality

And compression will almost always lose you quality as well, especially if you take it too far, though there are a few pretty good lossless codecs out there.

FFMPeg is an excellent open source video converter, once you have the raw format.

Also heard good things about Handbrake
