  • Pazio: Pathfinder

Even though WotC has the rights to consider 4th Edition as the "Spiritual Successor" of 3rd Edition DnD,

Paizo (former publishers of Dungeon and Dragon magazines) has, since WotC 'moved on' to 4th Edition, has dedicated themselves to "modifying, updating, and maintaining" 3.5 ... (and is thus backwards compatable with previously published 3.5 material including the NWN-stuffs).

Due to this, Pathfinder is considered (by myself and many others) the "True Successor" to 3.5 DnD... (which it respectfully refers to in its material as "the world's oldest fantasy roleplaying game"...

In case you haven't checked it out I -highly- recommend it for any 3.5 fan(atic)!

For a Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Paizo in any way... however, I am planning on converting my weekly PnP group I dm from 3.5 DnD (we tried 4th and went back to 3.5) to Pathfinder...

I am also interested in hearing your thoughts (or experiences) to share on Pathfinder!

Me and my group have fully converted to the pathfinder system and we are all in agreement that it has been the right choice.

We gave 4e a good honest try but in the end, it felt too gamey for us. More abstract and less to simulation as 3.5 tend to try. Pathfinder feels grittier and thus, more interesting to me, personally, and that is where our gaming enjoyment lies.

I am also not a terribly big fan of the 4e so-called "destruction of the Realms." (For those who don't know, the current edition of D&D has advanced the Forgotten Realms 100 years into the future after a magical apocolypse)

Regardless, Pathfinder is a wonderful update to 3.5, a 3.75 if you will, and I highly recommend it to anyone who plays D&D.

Whose graven runes in tomes of dread have taught/ What things beyond the star gulfs lurk and leer.

As an avid nerd, I have yet to throw my hands into the 4e arena but I am familiar with pathfinder, and I very much enjoy it. Though I am sorta getting tired of D&D for PnP always new books every other month...

Thats why I'm thinking if sticking to the world of darkness and gurps for all my pnp nerdy needs.

I've not even played pnp 3.5e.

But I'm currently working on a scheme called Pathfinder - It's making playgrounds for children! Therefore this topic amuses me.

I've taken a look at Pathfinder and I've taken a healthy interest in procuring it for further forrays into table top adventures. And since all the previous 3.5 matetial is compatible (and convertible), it means I can enjoy it without spending a small fortune to procure new books.

Now I just have to await the day when I have an extra $50.00 (American) available to purchase the Core book.

I have played 4th ed and pathfinder and I prefer the pathfinder system over 4th ed hands down. They have changed the core courses enough to make me want to go thru and play each core class again. It has made being a dm easier especially there beastiary and core rule book having everything you need as a dm. I will play pathfinder over any of the D&D systems till something comes out better.
