Love the books. I recall finding the first one completely randomly in the bookstore and just getting caught up in it. I think I read it until the sun came up.

I'm terrified about just how badly this could end up tho. The story is just so involved that I'm not sure it translates well to the screen.Although Dinklage as Tyrion could save the whole thing.

Good casting of Bean as well ( pity he won't stay long).

ah, that should satisfy my craving.
been waiting on that next book for years.
george rr martin's such a great writer, its too bad he's so dishonest with his readers (hugely blown deadlines, what book will be the last in the 'trilogy').
i think all that popularity's gone to his head. unfortunately though, i'll keep coming back for more cause i'm a sucker.

but yeah.. an hbo show about it would be great
Aggribayl Blakfyre - The man known as Bayl, aka Little Red Riding Hood, aka The Shield, aka Mr. Leaving, aka Kyle Rendell
Cryok, Son of Frigiss - aka Fross-Choppa
The Kegfists - Dwarven brothers likely to die under eachothers' axes
Jarvis P. Bloggins III - Gnome with a Long Title
(And too many more to bother listing)

He isn't the only author that uses the word "Trilogy" loosely.

            Trilogies.

            Epic Trilogies.

I've had enough. I'm going to change careers, become a highly regarded scientist and dedicate my life to new discoveries.

Then I'll use my newly invented time machine to hop back a few dozen years and beat J R R Tolkien's skull in with a spade.

While I'm at it I might go drop an anvil on C S Lewis's face (obviously I'd cover it loosely with a cloth that depicts highly religious scenes).

Then I'd retire safe in the knowledge that I had done great things in the name of literature and in the name of science.

While you're off time traveling, can I use your kharma? Mine seems to have broken down running over someone's dogma.

Kharma are a high quality speaker manufacturer from the Netherlands.

Sadly I'm not rich enough to afford any of those and have settled for mid-range JBL speakers on most of my audio equipment.

You can have my कर्म though, but I must warn you that much like my bank balance it is entirely negative.

I refuse to allow one of the greatest authors of all time to go undefended. I'll be there waiting for you with the pointy stick of smiting, so be prepared for a geek-off!

He was a better philologist than fictional writer, in my opinion.

You know, I've always had this nagging suspicion that there is some vast conspiracy theory out to get me. One part of this conspiracy seems to be the swapping of books. You see people keep saying that Tolkien is this fantastic author and that the books are the best thing ever, yet this strange conspiracy exists to replace any of this mythical 'greatest authors' books that come into my possesion with the works of a rather hackneyed and grating author.

(As a side note; I may be extra bitter at the moment as not 30 minutes ago I slipped on some steps and made my ankle go snappy-crack. Not being able to walk makes me a grumpy person.)

I think Lewis's fantasy was a bit bleh. But his sci-fi is alright.

And his nonfiction can be superb. His Abolition of Man is frickin' outstanding. Among many other works. Of course, one of his greatest influences was G. K. Chesterton, who also is an amazing author. Orthodoxy is brilliant.
